Police Pushing for Death Penalty in Michigan

Since the shooting of two officers in Detroit (about 25 miles from my front door), the police and the families of the slain officers are pushing for the death penalty to be reinstated in Michigan which has not had the death peanlty since 1846. I personally would rather die than be in prison for 50 years, but that's just me. Anyway, one officer's father was trying to say something stupid about it trying to get a federal law passed making it a capital federal offense to kill an officer. I am not a person that believes in killing in any form. But, why should an officer's life be any MORE important than a civilian's?!?! They know the danger!!! Why the fuck would we want to give even more power and prestige to cops? It is already bad enough that one has to take an asswhipping from cops without fighting back. I mean the cops hardly ever get convicted of brutality and usually try to charge the victim with crimes. Can you imagine the laws that could follow this one? Hit an officer=Life, yell at an officer=1 year misdemeanor, swear at an officer=five year felony. Oh wait, I forgot...Michigan already gave a guy 6 months for swearing at a park ranger and gave another guy life for spitting AT (not on) an officer. What the fuck is wrong with this state and country?

the penalty for killing a civilian should generally be worse than killing a cop IMO.

As far as the death penalty goes, they dont hand out enough of them. As well the period people are on death row is to long. Although an instant death penalty sentence for killing a cop sounds stupid.

Also do you have any links about they guy who served 6 months for swearing at a park ranger. And as far as i heard, the guy spit directly in the face of the cop.

I don't have a link, but I will find out more about the guy who swore (I am about to go out). But, I think it got dropped to 100 days plus a fine or something and he got a bunch of press coverage and the last I heard, he was appealing the sentence. This was a while ago though. But, Life for spitting in a Cop's face?!?!

I wouldn't be opposed to handing out more death penalties if we could ensure that our justice system gets it right 100% of the time.
