They didn’t really have a choice.


Some women worked, it was just frowned upon, and there weren't a whole lot of jobs for women.

Some women would prefer that men made a living wage, and they could be a stay at home mom. I would argue that a lot of women would prefer that. Regardless, we're talking about the golden economic age of America.

I agree, the effective tax rates were higher, but I wouldn't say "by a lot".

We have to also remember the wealth was more evenly distributed in the 1950's and the wealthy weren't paying as much to the total tax revenue.

When some conservatives argue that since the wealthy pay so much in taxes today, we shouldn't ask them to pay more, I want to kick them in the head. It's not a good outcome to have all of the inequality, therefore we shouldn't be grateful for the wealthy paying so much of the total tax revenue.

I completely agree. If we didn't have the sort of income inequality we have today, I probably wouldn't be arguing for such high tax rates. The top marginal bracket that AOC has proposed, is aimed at incomes over $10 million. That's because she's not trying to tax the shit out of even your average rich person. She's trying to tax the shit out of the 'super rich', and redistribute that wealth.

Wealth in this country has become a real problem for me, because guys like Donald Trump, and this Shultz guy, can just come in out of left field, with their billions, and either rig an election in their favor, or get more coverage than actual politicians. Particularly politicians who aren't taking PAC money. Shultz has already gotten 10X the coverage that Tulsi Gabbard has gotten, and he doesn't even have clear policy positions.

'Turn the other cheek' means not responding to injury with revenge. It doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't practice self-defense or challenge the world (prevailing status quo - business as usual). Also recognize that humans are imperfect beings. Shit happens and we don't all live up to the highest standard all of the time. What you are doing right now is Saul Alinsky's rule #4. It's a cheap tactic.
