My argument is that adults might know it’s offensive, kids at an isolated private school, probably not.

Fair enough.  We've just established that it was offensive.

The question then is whether the kids should have known better.

We can’t expect sixteen year old kids to be able to know every rule of political correctness.  These are not kids from a big city either.

But in this time and place, they very well may be fucked.

You're right - it didn't diffuse the situation because the kids chose to engage with the Indians.  A bad choice for the Indian with the benefit of hindsight.

The natives chose to engage the kids though.... and with hindsight the kids probably wouldn't have chosen to engage them. You know with the multiple threats of death and violence received, calls for doxing, memes created and all over an awkward smile.

And I totally agree, all the threats were uncalled for.  This was a bunch of kids just being pricks, nothing more.

After the kids taunted the Indians with the Tomahawk Chop and yelling.  Again, nothing criminal, just kids being pricks.

Now you got me.  A knife may have been bad, but the peace drum is the ultimate offensive weapon.

What do you mean after the kids were doing the chop?

The BHI was insulting the kids with racial slurs and attacks almost 30 minutes
before the indian guy ever even showed up. Talk about fake news

It's an exposé of our current condition; having a 16 year old kid apologize on national TV? Reminds me what they did that Hogg kid. They are wet behind the ears, just like all youth are. Not everyone is old enough to be woke/PC/mature during teenage years.

Thank goodness there where no video cameras around when I was 16.

Tell me about it.

I also see kids who get criminal records for dumb shit and I feel bad because I had done some of the same things, but never got caught -- or like you said everyone and their mother wasn't recording you with a cellphone.

I think some wild teenagers with the ungrown prefrontal cortex should get some passes for toilet paper and spray paint.

Got it, I think we're mixing up the parties here.  I thought Magic was referring to the Indians.

The bottom line is that the Tomahawk Chop was disrespectful to the Indians.  If I did that to an Indian in my company (for example) I could lose my job.

Here's a great article on the subject by "The Intercept"

Portraying the MAGA Teens as Victims Is an Extension of Native American Erasure
Quote:
BY NOW, MILLIONS around the world have seen the viral video of dozens of Catholic schoolboys sporting “Make America Great Again,” or MAGA, hats tomahawk-chopping and mocking a Native elder.

Nathan Phillips, the military veteran and water protector from the Omaha Nation, waded into the crowd of high school students, as he tried to defuse a tense situation between the students and a group of black Israelites who were taunting Natives and passers-by with racist and homophobic comments.  What should have been a time of soul-searching for a nation founded on Indigenous genocide has instead morphed into an attack on Indigenous people.

As soon as the jarring video made international news, an organized media campaign quickly spun the story — turning the jeering Covington Catholic High School students into victims. And concern from both liberal and conservative media outlets shifted from confronting the issue of Indigenous erasure — why were Native people marching in D.C. in the first place? — to defending the innocence of white youth.

We found out that the sneering MAGA kid’s mom is vice president of Fidelity Investments. The well-to-do family hired a PR firm to protect his image.  On NBC’s “Today” Show, Savannah Guthrie interviewed Sandmann. The entire history of Indigenous erasure on that day boiled down to a single white boy’s testimony. He appeared without his MAGA hat and calmly mischaracterized his encounter with the Phillips.  “Umm, I just stood there,” he told Guthrie when asked if he should apologize. With that, the tables switched, and Phillips became the aggressor.

Journalists are often the first to write history — and they are also the first to rewrite it. We’ve seen how cops killing Black kids is made to look like self-defense, how children crossing borders become “illegals,” or how Native elders singing songs become violent aggressors.

These kids go to a school where they dress up in blackface. There is something seriously wrong with the culture at that school. Maybe we should be blaming the adults who dragged these kids across the county to be political activists.

Regardless I’m glad they were exposed. At least the schools where these kids are applying will know the nature of these little shits and hopefully they won’t accepted.

He's just doing the same thing others have been doing to pin the white kids as the enemy. It's funny how you and other people agree so much on who is really guilty here..but you have different ways of coming to that conclusion. Like the one dude that says he'd punch what he considers modern day nazis because they were involved with WW2 almost a hundred years ago, and how Koods compares these kids to the other kids at their school. But now you're implying it only matters if we're talking about the people involved in the video. Can you tell that to Koods and wooof?

And why do you keep making vague statements like "they were being pricks" but not saying what they were doing that makes them such pricks? Is it because you realize saying what they did will just make you look petty? Did the white kids call the Indians or black guys faggots or incest babies or organ harvesters like they were called? Or did they just continue being rowdy teenagers that made unacceptable facial expressions and chanted in the space they were already standing in before they were approached?

You guys are weird, leave these kids alone and stop infantilizing these old black and Indian men that started the whole situation.

Kind of glad this situation happened though, it opened a lot of peoples' (not only white) eyes to the media bias and the "white people are automatically guilty" style of reporting they do. Keep it up, I'd love to see white people get their spines back.

I hear you, but the Indian wasn't calling for the right to shoot virgins with arrows.  Nazis, on the other hand, are openly white supremacists calling for an all white nation.

I mentioned the fact that were giving the Indians the Tomahawk Chop at least six times.  Might be ok in a sports arena where your team is named after native Americans, but it's clearly not ok if you're doing it to an Indian's face in a mocking manner.  And yes, the videos clearly showed them being rowdy teenagers by mocking the Indians.

Eminence said:

Leave the kids alone because they're white, right?  Look, I agree the House of Israel guys were guilty of inciting the kids, but trying to diffuse an ugly situation by the Indian isn't as bad as getting mocked for it and making the situation even uglier.  Sure, with hindsight, the Indian shouldn't have done it.  He probably didn't realize he was walking into a group of racist assholes.

If the white kids were as racist as you imply they would've had their best chance to show it towards the very openly racist black guys and the Indians that told them to go back to Europe. And do you not think white people mock and joke about other white peoples' cultures? Why the fuck can't white people ever joke about something having to do with another culture without it turning into some stupid "racism" argument? The main kid even gestured his friend to stop talking when he spoke up after being told to leave the country too, which he didn't have to do. Have you ever had a black or brown friend? If you have, you'd know it's common to fuck around with each other in ways like that too. And there's nothing wrong with an all white nation, just like there's nothing wrong with an all african or Asian nation.

If you are trying to diffuse the tension between an aggressor group and an
obviously innocent group of kids, why would you walk up to the kids chanting
with a drum?

Why not walk up to the BHI and drown out their racist, and hateful cries to both
the white kids and the native march?  Makes more sense to try to drown out their
rhetoric especially because the israelites were smearing native american culture too

They can joke about it all they like, especially among friends.  But it's not wise to make fun of others whom you don't even know.

There's nothing inherently wrong with a one race nation, unless the means to that end are genocidal. That's where pre-WW2 Germany went wrong, because their goals required gross immorality to accomplish them. Imperial Japan didn't have that particular issue since they already were basically a one race nation. Though didn't Imperial Japan commit heinous war crimes against other Asians/Asian Nations?

Much hate speech. Much controversy.

I suspect it's because the kids outnumbered the House of Israel crowd by quite a bit, and the kids looked a lot more riled up (the House of Israel kept their cool).  But that's just a guess.  Do you have a better guess?
