My point is fascism is a stupid fucking idea. It’s what happens when capitalism loses control of the populace. The tactics used in colonial nations came home to the imperial powers when the institutions of power could no longer pacify the people. It’s a last ditch effort by state and corporate power to maintain the status quo. And despite having all the money and the power, it still fails.

What fractured nation was ever rebuilt by fascism? Ahistorical nonsense.

As long as liberal capitalism is in decay, the potential for fascism will exist.

Fascism requires neither of those things.

Okay...so saying fascism won’t happen because Americans won’t accept A or B when neither is a prerequisite is a pointless statement.

Who says fascism can’t exist with political opposition? Dissent gets crushed sure, but Mussolini didn’t just step on a stage one day and declare himself dictator. Nor did Hitler.

People seem to have this idea that fascism reveals itself immediately as a militarized authoritarian regime that starts off my executing dissenters and undesirables. Read up on how Il Duce came to power in the first place.

At what point does it become fascism?  When there are no elections, or when the elections mostly are rigged shams?

When they are kicking down doors and dragging people away, or just by the time there are more people in jail than anywhere else in the world?

When there are labour concentration camps, or just when half the workforce toils for incredibly low wages and sinks deep into debt?

Totalitarianism is soo twentieth century.  Fascism has evolved.  It has been reborn for these post modern times now with more subtle yet effective devices,  the wealthy and privileged class it's Aryan nation.

We are literally using prison slave labor to fight the wildfires in California. North Korea does this and we scoff at their primitive authoritarian society.

Slavery inplies that the work is compulsory when it is voluntary.

I've know former inmates who volunteered to fight wildfires and believe it or not they prefered being out in the forest, risking their lives doing difficult but meaningful work to rotting away in a concrete cage.

One of them told me, "When you been locked in a cell, being out on a fire crew is kinda like going camping".

Does fascism necessarily have to be led by a single dictatorial individual, couldn't it be a cabal that trades leadership back and forth giving the appearance of a choice?

That's my fear of the dominionist movement which Pence is a member of so they seem to be making progress toward their goal.

Prisoners like forest fire work, and they freely choose to do it, so it's all good.  It's not like slavery.

Never mind that the prisoners get paid mere pennies for hard, dangerous, important work, or that they are among the most vulnerable, exploitable group of humans anywhere.  How many of them feel that not going to fight fires would not look good at a parole hearing?  Or may result in inexplicable inconveniences happening to them around the prison in the near future?

Plus, someone who was locked up in a cage for so long that going to a forest fire seems like a vacation is not making much of free choice.  It's a pretty compelled choice, and for the state to then exploit them like that is inhumane.

There are numerous examples of America's justice system being totally corrupt, from crooked police to bribed judges to corrupt lawmakers,  many of America's prisoners shouldn't even be in jail in the first place.
