I've been beating this forum like a red-headed step child and I haven't found one single post where someone has actually found an active in Michigan.. Folks say, look for subbs, check the actives list.  It's all here-say.  I'm am officially declaring that Michigan has no actives until someone proves me otherwise.  Unless you've picked one yourself, I don't believe you!  :laugh:

I garuntee people have found cincts there. They grow in all 50 states. Just keep at it and Check different habitats. Maybe it's the wrong time of year?

There is your proof you will definitely be able to find Panaeolus Cinctulus for sure! Like another poster said they grow in every state you just need to put more effort in to it and look harder and expand  how far you are looking. Dont give up they are out there 100% garentied.

Well that's compelling.  After flipping through those Gym pics, some shrooms I picked a couple days ago certainly look like Gymnopolus P. 

Any thoughts on these that were found growing from old dead wood.  I thought they were inactive due to no bruising, but I now know that all that is gold does not Blue.

Is psilocybe quebecensis a rare mushroom or would I be able to obtain a print from someone you think?

I know it's been a few weeks on this thread, but I live in Michigan and have found countless grocery bags full of cinctulus every year all over the state in every season but the dead on winter, easiest to find in july and august tho after a week of thrunderstorm level rain when humidity and temps are bout 80-100 degrees and high humidity

Look for them on green lawns of sub divisions, makes sure the lawn has not been sprayed with pesticides, and if it's fresh sod you have a high chance.  Also make sure to spores print every single one, cause they have a look alike that you cant tell by eye. The spore print should be jet black, and research the hell out of them so you know their characteristics because they don't always look like the pics online. 

Ive also found gymnopilus species, turns out I've picked and walked right by them for years until not to long ago when I decided to do more in depth research and id'd some g. Luteus I found, I have pics in my gallery if you would like

You aren't out of time on either of those, and if you are lucky and research and walk around with eyes peeled you may even find ovoids or caerulipes. But the best bet is the p. Cincts I don't even take pics or make posts on the cause they are so common I thought.  BTW they give a different feeling the cubes which I actually really like.

Psilocybe Caerulipes, active Gymnopilus, and Pluteus Salicinus from the past month. Pan Cintcs grow at damn near every park in metro Detroit mixed in with all the pan foes. Caerulipes are still happening and gyms, the there are probably done for the season.

Awesome job on those caerulipes and salicinus, both of those are rare boys.  I wish I had more time to hunt, have had only a 4 days off the past 2 months and only 1 with nice enough weather and that's when I found the gyms.  Glad to see others finding round here!

Was about to come here to post this (didnt look at the thread since before the pluteus post)...
The species was originally collected in Michigan by Alexander H. Smith on September 3, 1957 on Populus. In 1993, Banerjee & Sundberg described it as Pluteus salicinus var. americanus. In 2014 it was elevated to species rank by Alfredo Justo, Ekaterina Malysheva and Drew Minnis.[1]

I found one this year where I'm at, they are not common, but if youre looking in woods with really well rotted logs you have a chance of finding these.


Like this area has a ton of well rotted logs, the majority of mushrooms I see are galerina. And I never seen one before moving here in my life. Mighta looked them up once or twice but I had pastures where I was at so they weren't a worry. Wasn't until collecting edibles like honey mushrooms I had to kind of really learn what they were.

They're just everywhere, I might start taking pictures of them.
