Just thought I would stir the waters up a bit with this one again...anyone figured this mushy out? Sent some samples to Workman last fall...dunno if he tried anything with them.
Cheers

Hi all, Im Eric, like to hunt and eat shrooms..not really an expert, but was thrilled at the possibility that this exact same mushroom i found along the ottawa parkway was psilocybin containing and picked several did massive amounts of studying, checking and rechecking making many spore prints etc. well after not really 100% verifying whether these were caerulipes or not, i decided to eat them anyway in the hopes that i didnt die but had a great high. Well they may not be caerulipes though they look like them, i can assure you that those mushrooms u found and posted pics of are definately 100% fun to trip on, i now pick them every year, they start best in late october around here in ottawa i found...at least along the parkway, and a smaller cap gets u pretty buzzed but 1-2 of the medium to larger caps gets u off to never never land. I would never recommend eating mushrooms your not sure of....but i figured that on the philosophy of what doesnt hurt you makes you stronger and im glad i ate them. So yeah thats my advice...they taste like shit tho...way worse than semilanceata or silvatica the latter of which also grow along the parkway...but these suspected caerulipes grow fairly abundantly and give a great ride. Also if i could ask anyone here for an easy way to grow these over winter as i would like to have some winter time fun....please let me know sincerely Eric

I pick P. caerulipes quite often, three different variations of them, and those look quite different from any that I have seen.
I have posted pictures in the past, but I am planning on posting new pictures, as these mushrooms have adapted a more potent form as well as odd physical characteristics (swirling gills and a more "meaty" texture). They actually resemble P. azurescens, but it is extremely unlikely.

What? Really?? I'd be very surpsied if they weren't! Not saying they are, but damn, they definitely display all the right characteristics of Psilocybe mushroom.
Can't say I'm very experienced picking anything put P.Cubensic and Pan.Cyanascens so I dunno. That's just my 2c.

5 years old lol. Shit aye.
Still I wonder what they were. They look like some unidentified psilocybe to me. But I'm far from an expert.

Psilocybe(Stropharia) caerulea/ aeruginosa group..........EDIT: with a face only a mother could love.....can actually be quite striking...possibly the most beautiful of all shrooms in some varieties......

Surprizingly there is still alot of questions regarding the activity and toxicity of this group of mushrooms....

My Bad, I thought this was shroomey Dan's post on P. caerulipes. They are as ShroominDole says, belong to Nooderloos Psilocybe genera of non-active Stropharias renamed into Psilocybe.
They are not psychoactive whatsioever. The slimy caps are a distinct feature of those particular Stropharias which were recently renamed int he genus Psilocybe.
Why Paul Stamets puts non-active species in a book on psilocybin musherooms is beyond my comprehension.

I revisited this sample and have a tentative identification (better late than never, right?). The chrysocystidia and viscid cap place it in the genus Stropharia. The microscopic structures are in the ranges of the closely related blue Stropharias (S. pseudocyanea, S. aeruginosa and S. caerulea). Without a fresh specimen it is difficult to get an exact ID but it most resembles S.caerula. An attempt is being made to reanimate the dormant spores on the gills but the sample is very dirty and significant numbers of spores of other mushrooms were visible in the sample. I am also still working on a good cheliocystidia image to complete the composite.

I stumbled across this post, and although the debate was dragged through some 8 odd years, it was never resolved. I am fairly sure those are Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata.
