Is it worse being Agnostic than decisively religious or Atheist?
    #25084694 -

Religious people dislike me because I do not accept their version of "truth."

Atheists dislike me because I do not assert there is no god(s), even though I explain that being Agnostic is not a knowledge claim.

Fuck you all!

Nah, I meant they dislike me in terms of religious debate.  I'm a very likable person.  :jolly:

This tends to annoy/fuck people off quite significantly I've found.

Apparently, admitting that you 'don't know' is a 'cop-out'.

Perhaps it chaps upon their 'knowing' of what is truly going on around here to come across someone who doesn't.

Agnostics are fence sitting pussies.

Nobody is agnostic about werewolves, because nobody is afraid of the social stigma associated with declaring your nonbelief in werewolves.

Just own it you cowards.

That's what I fail to understand.  I concede there is most likely no god(s), but Atheists get their panties in a bunch unless I boldly proclaim there isn't.  From my perspective, doing so would be as much a knowledge claim as claiming god(s) exist.  I'm content with not knowing.

Theist/Gnostic/Deist: I believe.

Atheist: I dont believe because theres no reason to.

Agnostic: I dont believe because theres no reason to, but also I dont want anyone to think less of me, so i'll keep the door open for fairytales.

I get where you are coming from.  To be clear, I do not believe there is any merit in dogmatic practices.  Actually, I think it is absurd to think that if god(s) exist that someone could know which one(s).  On the other hand, I respect people's decision to believe as they like, as long as they do not force their beliefs down my throat.

NOBODY KNOWS.

Nobody could possibly know. Technically everyone is an agnostic, which is why its such a pointless term.

You can be an atheist and simply not believe in god. You dont have to be a goth edgelord who calls religious people sheep, or love Sam Harris. Atheism is simply a lack of belief in god.

Are you agnostic about Zeus? Astrology? Vampires? Reptilians? No of course not. Because society has agreed those things are laughable dumb, and lack all proof of existence. The latter is true for god, too, just not the former. Don't carry water for religion simply because they've stapled a negative connotation to the word atheist.

From the philosophical perspective, asserting there is no god(s) is a knowledge claim -- that's why I take the position that I do.

Do I see any evidence for the existence of god(s)?  No.

However, I cannot assert there is no god(s).

See, it's this hostility I can't understand. I've experienced it before. The only reason anybody would act so butthurt about how somebody else chooses to view existence is because it brings to light an insecurity in themselves.

If anything, it's you that needs to own your shit, and not spray it over other people like you are.

A curious metaphor :strokebeard:

I am slightly agnostic, in that I think there is a God, but Im not sure what God really is. Is it intelligence? Is God some kind of force or energy? Is God "alive"? Or is God just Nature/the Universe/Multi-verse?

Dont know. But Im curious to find out.

I very much suspect there is something 'godlike' going on about this existence. I just think it's arrogant in the extreme of humans to state they've got it all figured out. Hence, agnostic I am.

If there is a god, given what we know of existence and the universe, I'm sure as fuck our puny minds could not comprehend what it is or what it wants.

It's the arrogance of our species that pisses me off, like 'ol Mr Ecstatic up there.

Ego much?

Not quite the same - the concept of werewolve was invented relatively recently and it is well known as a fictional character for the intention of entertainment/scaring the fuck out of little kids. Religion predates a lot of shit, most shit you know, probably even the concept of atheism. Furthermore, a lot of the shit that you can read about in biblical scriptures (im choosing Christianity as the example) actually fucking happened. There was a guy named Jesus who people did believe was living flesh son of God, and he was actually crucified.

Say what you want about Agnostic, I respect them more than either the far Left or Right (in terms of religiousity) - They accept that they dont know. And that is the truth - you can say ALLLL you want, present all the arguments in the world for your point of view - in the end its just one single fucking thing that shuts down your whole story and bam youre wrong, thanks for pointing your wrong ass finger in everyones face your entire life.

The truth is, you dont know, nobody does so stop your judgments because they help nobody but you feel better about your 'certain' and 'right' style of living, which is almost certainly not the correct answer anyways.

Atheism is dogmatic because the belief is there is no God, strictly speaking. There is no "well, there might be one". In that sense, that is the dogma of being Atheist.

Weeeell, I am not afraid to own my beliefs. I would call myself Agnostic because I really can't say that I know and I do not believe that any human KNOWS for sure the answers to the worlds biggest questions. We're too insignificant in this entire universe for our tiny brains to comprehend or know the entirety of creation. It doesn't settle well with me when someone claims knowing the answers. Maybe you've convinced yourself and that's fine and real in your world. Just don't tell other people that you KNOW for sure.

It's entirely possible that there are mystical things that exist, but outside our brains... what if it is blank and devoid of all emotions we place on it... all wonder and imagination.. blank? On the other hand, I think it's silly to say that you KNOW there is nothing because you don't. I don't need to beat this dead horse any more.
