Hey, glad to see sensible people on this forum. Would call myself an anarchist, interrested in environmentalism and a bit of communism

Awesome! I take a neutral stance on the Anarchist vs. Marxist debate within communism as I think the distinction is misled, but I come down on the anarchist side on many issues and read a lot of anarchist theory. Environmentalism is definitely at the core of my politics as well.

Are there any particular movements or authors you like? I would guess your interested in veganism from your username, correct? I probably have a lot of recommendations for books / podcasts / YouTube channels depending on what aspect of anarchism you are interested in.

Fill in the blank for me. The economic system of a country is determined by __________________.

what's the logic behind having to take these measures (adapting capitalist techniques and privatizing the majority of the economy) to achieve the end goal? Surely if 80% of the economy controlled by the government is 80% socialism, reducing that control to 30% means they now only have 30% socialism, effectively going backwards? Forgive the ignorance, but that logic seems retarded.

The Chinese Government still retains majority control in its largest corporations, while taking advantage of foreign investments and technology.

I work in high tech, and about 10 years ago my company decided to make a major investment in China to build the parts for our products cheaper than what we paid for parts made in the S.F. Bay Area.  We taught the Chinese corporations how to consistently produce high quality high tech parts, and now they can use that knowledge to make their own products, while taking advantage of all the money we paid them.

Maybe so, but that still doesn't answer the question I'm trying to ask, which is, how does the technique of privatization ultimately lead to the state owning 100% of the economy and implementing full socialism?

I may be way off base, but i think it's supposed to be a long gradual transition that is easier for the powers that be to stomach.  Going full communist hardens capitalist resistance, but if they buy into the system, and become a major player in it, they can gain the clout necessary to drag everyone along with them eventually, or at least make themselves valuable enough that the west can't just cut them off without doing major damage to their own economies.

I suspect they'll take their cash surplus and buy everything back when they're ready.

All speculation at this point. I guess all we can do is wait and see what unfolds.

You can't blame capitalism as the cause of Venezuela's down fall. It was a corrupt Government (Socialists), bad trade decisions, bad economic policy and the fact that they imported more than they exported. Socialism alone would be a catalyst for a failed country. Socialists don't like supply and demand unless they supply it. Thats what happens in every socialist country. I'm sure you're going to tell me that that wasn't "real" socialism. Like you would know what real Socialism is from reading Socialist books from Socialists who want you to believe Socialism is a wonderful thing.

I recently picked up a used copy of AK Press's The Method of Freedom: An Errico Malatesta Reader and it is the most dank. He is up there with Emma Goldman and the Milkman himself as my favorite anarchists.
