Instead of just linking some material, why don't you tell me in exact details what makes China a socialist market economy relative to other nations, what specific criteria are you using.

What specific changes would China have to make to change your outlook on their economic status?

Capitalism is great because democracy should extend to everywhere except where it matters most: the economy.

That's why capitalism needs to be regulated to benefit the most people as possible.  Unfortunately, that regulation only comes when it comes to desperate circumstances.

Why dont we create a system thats not based on exploitation, and then tirelessly work to contain that exploitation...

That sounds good to me, who's in charge of making sure no exploitation takes place?

All of us.

Or we can keep it as is and let the 1% decide.

"All of us"

Well who's going to govern, our new representatives, correct?

If you want "exact detail" you need to read the link.  If you want a high level summary, the big difference is that the state retains controlling shares in all China's big companies, while smaller businesses like restaurants are allowed to be temporarily privatized on the road to full socialism.

I'm lost here. What is your definition of "full socialism?" China's government controlled 80% of the economy before the 1980s. Is that not full socialism? How does privatizing 60+% of that previous command economy set them on the road to what they all ready had before hand?

No, I'd call that 80% socialism.  :smirk:

It's explained in the link:
Quote:
The ideological rationale for this system is that China is in the "primary" or "preliminary" stage of socialism, an early stage within the socialist mode of production, and therefore has to adapt capitalist techniques to thrive in a global market system.

It seem like you're splitting hairs once again. Many capitalistic countries also have plenty of state owned enterprises.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State-owned_enterprise

"China's stated owned companies are a vehicle for corruption by the families of ruling party leaders who have sometimes amassed fortunes while managing them."

Once again, another version of crony capitalism. What should we call the Bank of Japan and ECB that own trillions of dollars worth of publicly traded stocks and bonds?

What about the Fed that owns trillions of private mortgages?  That's state ownership of private assets, is it not?

I bet it's even much lower today.  What about Germany?

Of course he did not say it, don't give me sarcasm, now tell me how is he so popular if so many people would prefer a "soviet" type planned economy ?

Also I read a part of your « Putin wants to join EU » thread and I think you misunderstood what Putin said, he does not want to join the EU ideally he wants european countries to join in on his Greater Eurasia project.

Because they realize a return to Communism is next to impossible without a world war.  Russian assets have been privatized and sold on the international stock exchange (the Russian Trading System, or RTS, now the Moscow Exchange).  Do you think people would just allow billions of dollars in their Russian stock to be taken back by the Russian Government without putting up a fight?

One reason they like Putin is because he doesn't bow to American pressure.

If you're commenting in this thread and havent read Marx, Engels, Bakunin, Kropotkin, or even Hagel or Rousseau, then just shut the fuck up.

Das Kapital is hard enough to simply read, let alone spoonfeed to a bunch of Randian zealots. Seriously, what do any of you chuds know about the tenets of socialism? What do you know about Marx's critiques of capitalism? Bakunin's critiques of Marx? The Paris Commune? The First International? Lenin and/or Trotsky? Max Stirner?

Jack shit.

I don't think people need to read all of the primary sources you have listed, and I certainly don't think that people need to abstain from commenting for any reason. We don't need to go around perpetuating our reputation as fussy academics distant from the lives and real struggles of the working class. That said, one does need a willingness to do some research if they don't want to make a fool of themselves. Whether this is philosophy or economics I don't really care. Just know that it is painfully obvious how little most of the people in this thread know about the subject at hand, and reading literally any one of the links I provided would help them immensely in forming their arguments.

Capital really isn't that difficult either. You need a solid grasp of his terminology, and having read Smith, Ricardo and Hegel helps, but I honestly found it much easier than his earlier works.

Kudos for mentioning Max Stirner :stoned:

I'm not trying to shut anybody out, but you nor I are close to as eloquent as the aforementioned thinkers are, I simply dont know how to make any headway whatsoever. And its not like I'm trying to turn everyone here into an anarcho communist, I'd settle for a simple acknowledgement of the terms and the ideals. If I saw a thread about Macedonian Imperialism and its far reaching effects, I wouldnt be all up in it pretending I know best because I saw some reviews of the movie Alexander. And thats where the fundamental disagreements come from: you can get almost everyone to agree capitalism has its downsides, but almost no one will agree that socialism is a better alternative because they have a fundamental misunderstanding about it. And they refuse to understand it. And like I said, I'm not saying everyonr has to be a socialist, but I have never once seen someone on this subforum attack the merits of socialism without misrepresenting them.

And Capital was a chore for me, but I suppose thats because the Manifesto is such a breeze.

albeit the absolute least amount of money necessary to operate their factories.

And like Fal said: nearly all of SE Asia is capitalist and nearly all of those nations are poor. Same goes for Subsarahan African, same goes for Eastern Europe, same goes for Central and South America.

I never said Putin said that, I said it because comparatively to a soviet economy Putin's views are closer and that's all I said, listening to his speeches like the one I linked would've cleared that but hey if you want to ask for sources all around and respond to them with graemlins that's alright, I wasn't going to take this further anyway.
Also I don't see how his project of Greater Eurasia is an example of internationalism if that's what you imply. (which I'm afraid you do)
You give me three lines about the Moscow Exchange that are totally out of context , absolutely no point with my original question, then the only reason you can come up with regarding why russian people like Putin is because he doesn't bow to american pressure. Although that's true there are a number of other reasons including economic ones that just couldn't go with the idea of a soviet economy.

That's right, there's winners and losers in the game of global economics.

If your version of "socialism" is the best system for humans moving forward, then it will emerge as the dominate economic system.  Thus far, it hasn't work out so well, therefore we have the current system.

The fact you keep ignoring is the corruption that exists in ALL of human political and economic systems, I don't know why you think it changes under state "socialism".
