If anything I think there needs to be a new term for that which founds the human condition, like self-control, or fight or flight response management.

That's the idea I proposed, a new term. Redefining sentient would be a bad idea in my opinion, because if we defined it in such a way that animals like pigs and cats were not considered sentient it would only serve to encourage animal abuse. People would be more likely to abuse animals because they're now considered "insentient" .
