I've no idea. Really don't.
I called the suicide hotline once. It was after my roommate pointed a gun to my head and told me to get out. I just wanted to talk to someone and feel like not everyone in the world was trying to ruin my life. When I told them that the guy was like "uh... Okay, do you have an address?" Nope. Hung up, and took apart my cell phone and slept in a neighbor's bull dozer. And by sleep I mean stared out all night in a fit of paranoia. Ended up going through that whole situation alone cuz I realized basically any of the people out there to "help" me would have had my friends arrested, and possibly released on bail and ready to kill me, and have had me homeless.
There's no one you can "just talk to" about these things. Someone's gonna call the fucking police and fuck your shit up and fuck what you want or need.
The medical professionals aren't really all that much better with handling mentally ill or people with problems. The moment you get human the moment everyone around you gets paranoid.
Police have a duty to protect you and themselves. Something in their training makes them lose sight of that I think. The you part at least. There's been more than a few stories of them executing the mentally ill for no apparent reason. One man I know of was beaten to death by a squad of police officers. Kelly Thomas, all officers charged in the assault were found not guilty. He was non-compliant to the officers who responded to a call about a shirtless and disheveled man but made no aggressive moves. They threatened him when he refused to consent to a search. They attempted to arrest him and accused him of stealing mail. He wouldn't put his hands behind his back. So they beat him to death.
When paramedics came on the scene they were asked to look at the cut on an officers arm and not the man lying on the ground choking on his own blood.
I find it funny how much of a 'cool' liberal fuckshit land CA is but it seems some of the most corrupt police in the country make their home there.
In general though, it might be the authorities duty to care about you, it doesn't at all mean that they care about you. They don't care if you die. They don't care if you die in their care. They can just lie. Or at least have for so long that it doesn't matter anymore.
The police department said that that mentally ill fellow broke bones on 2 police officers in initial reports. Then they realized there was video. But the fact they lied, used clearly excessive force that left a man beaten to death, and neglected to even get him immediate medical attention meant nothing in the conviction attempt.
Definitely the kind of people I want taking care of me and my family.
Between 2005 and 11 there were 41 charges of manslaughter and murder against police (that includes Thomas's murderers) while the FBI reports thousands of voluntarily reported "justifiable homicide" from law enforcement nationwide.
I find it very hard to believe that thousands of suspects deserve to die, especially given police track records for lying.
Pretty much every case they lie. Which makes the unknown but very low conviction rate appalling. If you're innocent then why are you lying?
Eh. Apparently earlier this year an officer was convicted of manslaughter after trying to dole out his own justice and unloaded on an accused murderer in his vehicle. The suspect, who's hands were up in surrender, was severely wounded, his 6 year old boy in the back was killed.
Maybe our culture is simply more violent. I really don't know.
