I'm back!

The smoothie was made from about 7 grams of fresh shrooms (two hunts worth, minus one for the collection), some frozen berries, and a splash of lemon juice. I lay outside in a hammock and waited. I started to notice some effects after about 20 minutes. Most noticeably in my mouth and hands, similar to acid, if that makes sense.

35-40 minutes in, it was pretty much at its strongest. Very stoney, "down" wasn't very defined walking around, patterns started to catch my eye (love the way poplar leaves look). I was getting chilly, so I went inside.

They were definitely trying. I was able to see a silver maple "growing" with a little bit of concentration (or lack of it). Overall, I'd say it got me a little bit past level 1. For reference, I'm a good sized dude, about 200lb. My only other experience with mushrooms was with a half-eighth of cubes, and that was a good bit stronger, probably above level 3. I'm a bit more experienced with LSD, this was about like a half a hit or so.

I'm still feeling it a bit, about 5 hours later.  I'm going to help my brother find some and get his opinion as well.

One last thing. I ate them on an empty stomach and it made me somewhat queasy, although it was manageable. I'll probably make a tea next time.

since these are so small and relatively not abundant, i'd make an extraction as follows:

ingredients
--water, boiling
--dried and powdered mushrooms
--two lemons
--fresh ginger root
--honey
--water, cold

1.  boil water
2.  put crushed/crumbled, dried mushrooms in an insulated coffee mug
3.  pour just enough water into the mug to cover the mushrooms, plus an extra 2 oz.
4.  squeeze the juice of two lemons into the mug
5.  stir for about 30 seconds and put a lid on the mug
6.  after 10 mins, put five or so slices of ginger into the mug and stir again
7.  agitate every once in a while
8.  after 10 more mins, stir thoroughly again
9.  add honey to taste
10.  optional; strain out mushroom material, or do as the cowboys did when making coffee over a fire: slowly add very cold water to the mixture and watch the mushroom material sink to the bottom (cold water sinks and takes the mushroom material with it to the bottom).  sometimes i drink the whole thing, minus the ginger, and sometimes i just use the cold water trick.
11.  consume and be ready for effects within 10-15 mins at most
12.  rinse your mouth thoroughly.  the lemons have a very low ph and as such can be harmful to your teeth enamel   


this extraction never fails to amplify the effects quite a bit, cause onset sometimes within 5 minutes, and be quite pleasant tasting as well as easy on the stomach.

Thank you for your post, tho I can't say I'm not sliiiightly bummed that they didn't melt your face off haha.
I haven't eaten enough LSD Or mushrooms to trip since college about 7 years ago. I did eat a handful of Ovoids this spring, but barely enough to get the giggles..
I'm about to go out again later and try to add a few more

I didn't ruin these by just letting them sit out lastnight, did I? I was hesitant to dry them because there is a possibility I might try them tomorrow. Idk they are so small, I'm a little worried I should have put them into some desiccant or something?

i would dry them asap.  you can look at them and smell them to determine if they're rotting, but i never let fresh mushrooms sit around unless i'm printing them.

Thanks relic! I'll definitely check that out next time. I've even got some homegrown ginger to throw in.

Herb, I brushed mine off and kept them in the fridge. Maybe check your spot again or with different light and you'll boost your numbers.

I haven't done acid that frequently. Maybe 3 times a year. Most recently a little more than a month ago.

Bump it up to 10g fresh and it would be solid I bet.

Thanks. I was printing them and they were much more brown than I expected? I know they are Caerulipes tho.. hmm
I thought if you were planning on saving them you had to thoroughly dry quickly but if you were to use them soon it was ok to just let them sit on some paper. I've read too many forums or listened to the wrong dingus lol

then you have a most excellent opportunity to explore the viability of making a cultivated patch!  great luck there, no hate for sure.

at least try feeding the patch with some recently downed beech debris.  it's the least you can do to return the favor to the fungus and you just might find the patch exploding in future years.

you also have the opportunity to expand our knowledge base for this species...does it regularly/ever fruit in the spring?  does it start fruiting much/any earlier than we currently think?  will it fruit as/more prolifically from any other types of wood?  are flushes tied to large rain events in the preceding days?

so many questions and now you have the obligation to educate us, one and all!  (no pressure :lol:)

I'm overwhelmed by all those questions, Relic. You are getting me excited tho. If I could even answer a few of those that would be groovy. Hopefully I have enough luck to be able to pull something like that off. I've been hunting these same woods tho and never found them before, but in those 5 years I just plain misunderstood their season, was pregnant, had a newborn, lived in Iowa for a year.. and just life so..
I have a 2 year old now and it's really not safe to be taking him out as far as I need to go(there are falling limbs everywhere, steep hills, and I've came across many snakes) so my time is very limited :frown:
But I will do what I can! Because I absolutely love it!
Any more in depth advice you can give me would not go unread if you or anyone want to message me. I have a spot in mind to start adding debri too.. I will be able to get out there for maybe 2 or 3 hours tops tomorrow

Nice finds guys! Your pictures are beautiful! And congratulations on first finds that's awesome!!

This has been the most productive year in the 6 years I've been finding them. I'll blow this up with pictures in a couple days.

But I recently bought a house in the heart of caerulipes country, and they grow on my property and the surrounding public land in abundance. It got to a point that I had to stop collecting and taking pictures as there was just too many. All within a mile radius around my house.

But I've learned more about them this year than all other years. I'll go in depth with details when I get to my computer. But the top producing trees were hophornbeam and  maple, in fact I found a hornbeam maple forest without any beech and it produced more than any location I have ever found, hundreds if not thousands.

Now is the time and this is the year to find them! Good luck everyone!

Ok so I got a chance to upload, I apologize as this might be lengthy and rambling.

So last year I didnt get out much because of the house purchase around this time, closing was in October. 5 acres, 2 of grass 3 of woods, surrounded by around 600 acres of public land mix of woods and abandoned fields.  All but a couple of these are from my property directly or this surrounded land. Im on top of a 2400 ft ridge and the public land encompasses most of ridge top and surrounding slopes. Its these slopes that mass produced.

In this area everything was logged for agriculture or industry in the mid to late 1800. All except the highest mountain tops which are still in virgin first growth. Great depression hit and all was abandoned bought by the state and left to regrow. Now most of the forests are climax second growth northern hardwood, dominated by yellow birch, American beech an sugar maple. Its these second and first growth forests that prior to his year is all i searched. And was never disappointed as the caerulipes were everywhere, beech exceeding them all by a long shot. But they were never abundant in a small area as i would hike miles to find them.

My house is just outside this second growth forest in the slightly more fertile ( everything here is poor soil) lower rolling hills that held on to agriculture longer. So there are a lot of open fields with a mix of second and third growth and early successional forests. This is why i chose to live here. Trees are my life and nowhere else is there such a range of different forest types and maturity in such a relatively small area.

My property and the surrounding ridge is a mixed northern hardwood. Sugar maple being the most abundant tree. Beech is common but especially the north and west facing slope. Yellow birch is only scattered on the ridge ( which is 90% open field) an slopes and abundant in the hollow down bellow. My land faces south and the remaining south and east slope are a mix of sugar maple, hophornbeam (ostrya) and white ash, with scattered beech. And the forests range from 30 to no more than 60 years old, young by all means.

Beech bark disease has messed this area up pretty good as most all beech trees look like this:


 

Most of the trees are dead or dying from the disease and I always assumed that because of this caerulipes is abundant in the area. And that just might be the case.

But now on the the hornbeam. I been out searching all year, found a few on the dead beeches starting at the end of july. But not much, mid August thunderstorm came and i went searching. Found the first ones on my land on one of my dead beeches, so i poke around more. And find more under a beech tree but as i go to take picture i realize it is not on the beech but growing from the top of a fallen hornbeam. Being the first time i had found it on hornbeam i was intrigued especially since armillaria had taken down a couple dozen hornbeams on my property. Now hornbeam is relatively slow decaying especially compared to birch and beech. In fact hornbeam heartwood if dried is very durable exposed to the elements. But armillaria rotted the roots and the trees fell leaving the tops buried under leaves and they eventually decay, and decay faster once it gets started. So i poke around the hornbeams and sure enough the caerulipes are everywhere. Growing directly from hornbeam logs, on broken branches, on fallen off bark and just around the hornbeams in general on leaf litter. So i make my way around the ridge and find a mature forest of sugar maple and hornbeam. Its rare because hornbeam is mostly an understory tree or sub canopy tree, but the maples where short, probable because of the poor rocky south facing slope, so the hornbeams where in the canopy and the largest ones ive ever seen, some over 60in in circumference, which is massive for hornbeam. There was also a lot of fallen ones again from armillaria. And the caerulipes was like nothing ive seen, not just on the hornbeam but the maples as well. This area produced the most by a lot.

Anyway enough rambling my point is that im convinced they can and do grow everywhere not just mature beech forests. In fact the beeches did poorly this year compared to  other years. Ive found them on top of a first growth mountain, along a second growth stream, in a fern glade, along the road, along a trail, at a campsite, along a power line cut, along an old field wall, but the largest producer is slopes... Well drained slopes. Well hope that helps heres some pictures.

Awesome pics and info Roy:super: There's quite an abundance of sugar maple in my area,much more than beech truthfully.Im stoked to see you finding them in other mixed forests at such great numbers.Very informative tips that will definitely help me and others this year. I usually only find between 30 and 40 each season and im pleased w that, but your info has me wanting to triple that now, hopefully :goodluck:Congrats on your land/home purchase and i hope everything's working out for you.If you don't mind me asking which state are you finding these?
