interesting... this was my favorite part. The sacrament internally changes the consciousness- well put.

Sacraments are not dangerous externally, but they do, inevitably, stir up fear and awe and terror in the people who don't use them. We're all afraid of the other guy's sacraments- and rather understandably so- because when a person takes a sacrament which works, no matter what is, it can be sexual, it can be monastic (you know, when your child joins a monastery or nunnery), when a person gets involved in a sacramental search, we tend to lose him. He no longer responds to our rewards and punishments... we can't condition him... we can't control him, and those of us, who, for even the best motives, want a society where people can be conditioned and controlled to virtue and conformity- there is nothing that can be more upsetting than a sacrament which works. Because, if we know anything from history we know that the religious person is notoriously unresponsive to the usual rewards and punishments. It has always been the despair of the bureaucrat, that he shakes his fist or his club or his cross at the religious person, and he says: ?I don?t buy it.?

Yeah, I did think you made that up. Some of it sounds familiar, but I thought you were putting your own spin on it or something. Oops.

It's cool that you transcribed it anyway.

What he says in that speech makes perfect sense. That's all I can contribute to this thread. I'm sorry.

I've got a question.

If I created my world, and you created your world, does that mean we created each other?

Can someone explain this over lap to me?

If I create the lecture theatre, and you create the lecture theatre... are we seeing the same lecture theatre?

Or are you not seeing the lecture theatre at all...

And where exactly do we exist if not in the confines of this world we've willed into existence?
