I like the romp. I like the people there. Some posts are vulgar. But I'm not going to run and cry about it. I'll just ignore the posts. Same with the pub. I don't really know why I keep going there bc I don't really romp. But I feel more welcome there than in the pub or the other forums.

And you're not really someone I would vote for. Sorry.

At least it is refreshing to see people complaining about the romp more than about OTD.  That is kind of shroomy.  I'm an optimist.

I am not going to sit here any deny that we're not part of the problem. We are.

Calling us lazy might be taking it a little too far though. You do realize that we all do this as an unpaid service to the community, right? That being said I am not forced to do this, I choose to do it because I love this place.

The main forum I moderate is P&MWB. It's EASY to moderate because the rules are pretty cut and dry. When it comes to the sub-forums, it seems like people are pretty much understanding whenever I need to moderate.

The Pub is a completely different animal all together, and we've let it get away from us. We'd rather not have to go on a ruthless banning spree though, so rather than just taken action we are having a discussion with the community. Some really constructive advice has been offered, and I believe we're getting close to some kind of action plan.

Do you have anything constructive to add, or are snarky critical judgements all you have?

Snarky critical judgments are necessary when real action needs to be taken. This is a serious problem, without serious discussion we'd be gongho about jumping into something we havent fully fleshed out. One of the primary problems is moderatorship and a lack of engagement in the community. To fully correct this its going to have to go a little farther then dumping threads offsite somewhere, which is about as lazy a reaction as you can produce. You want things to be better step to the plate. The pubs got a very active community and a good base of potential mods. If we worked a little more symbiotically to keep this community running smoothly it'd go a long way to making the place better for everyone.

I think you'll find, if you take the time to read between the lines and tangents that this thread has shot off into, that it's far from just the mods who hope that The Pub could become somewhere where animosity and spite are not so prevalent. In fact there are more users in this thread than mods who have echoed this sentiment.

There are other Subforums where people who enjoy that kind of atmosphere are free to stroll into. But it seems hard to ignore the fact that many here, regardless of them being mod or user, veteran or noob, are finding the lack of respect increasingly difficult to deal with.

I think this hits the nail squarely on the head. Disagreeing, or debating in no way necessitates descending into insult or meanness or worse. It's by no means out of the ordinary to have an extremely heated debate with someone whilst remaining civil and respectful, and shaking hands when an 'agreement to disagree' or when a decision is made to leave the subject where it lies.

The only difference between letting things turn nasty, and keeping a kind and respectful vibe when having a discussion, as far as I can see, is some effort and self-restraint on the part of those involved. No one has to give in to reacting in anger or out of spite.

We all feel those feelings at times; we cannot control our minds wanderings and rantings. Neither can we control anything outside of ourselves - The only thing we can control is our interface between the two - our actions.

If we just made a little more effort to do so, The Pub, The Shroomery, and The World in which they exist would all be much more pleasant and rewarding places to be.

    I grew up in the orlando area and always thought of it as a safe and fun place for everyone from the tourists from anywhere in the world, the kids, teens, people going to bars.

    The cheap weird and cool little tourists traps to Disney and universal, it was always fun, no matter who you were or where your were from and i still cant believe that one asshole managed to shatter that feeling and expectation with this hateful and violent act.

my heart goes out to everyone effected by this.

I could not disagree with you more. Constructive critics is extremely useful at times.

However as soon as you become 'snarky' or 'judgemental' you descend into the realms of being disrespectful of your fellow human. Of the 1000's of people I have known in my life, not one ever responded well to feeling disrespected.
