Re: Dilemma. To share or not to share that drug with someone else... [Re: Hanz]
    #23249991 -

I got my niece weed her first handful of times. I showed her a bunch of different kinds so she knew what it all could look and smell like. Then the only time I ever bought spice, was to show her what weed does not look like.

Spice was starting to get real big in the schools around this time so I made the decision to do some real education. She was in her last year of middle school about to go into high school, and on top of that was going to be living in Colorado for the summer.

I started smoking when I was in 6th grade. I knew she would be as well right around the corner. Then One day she asked me.

It was better for me to just do it because no matter what she was gonna be trying to get high some how some way.

My sister (her mom) got real pissed when she finally found out, but a few years later and now everything's groovy. All three of us smoke when we get together on holidays and stuff.

She also knows she can ask me about anything now, and people growing up need at least one real unfiltered opinion on certain things.

I don't really take mdma but once or so a year, but she recently asked me about Molly because she wants to go to EDC and rave. I told her about how that's something you want to keep infrequent or it ruins it and bought her a test kit. I feel like it's better than saying drugs are bad!!! Just like everyone else, then she goes and eats some fucked up pressie and gets sick.

Judge me if you must, I have no fucks to give.

Hanz glad you saw my thread. The way I look at it is that of my friends there are the types to "irresponsibly" do drugs. And those who care and read up on what they do. My buddy literally took a random pill from a random guy at a rave for free and ended up in the hospital

obviously, even with responsible use there is still a risk. But ask yourself if the person you are giving shit to actually is the type of dude similar to "joe"  (the gentleman from my thread) or someone like you. You (from your posts) wiegh your doses ahead of time, generally plan the timings, don't carelessly mix, ensure purity, wait between disso "sessions" and research about the risks and pluses of your actions extensively

Joe on the otherhand does not do this. That is the difference

Yes, your thread made me think about this a lot. It made me wonder how to do it right. And it also made me think about the risks and possible consequences. Glad you got out safe with joe, it could have been worse.

And it's obvious that if you don't even really care about a guy like joe, than we might as well let him do as he pleases as long as he does it on his own. If you do care about your friend however, thats when the dilemma starts.

many people cared for their friends who OD'd. They are now facing criminal charges.

keep this in mind when sharing and "caring"

Yes, if only they had never made friends. They'd be alright now. Instead they chose to be idiots.

The elders should teach the young, especially with something as dangerous as drug use, to teach by example.

I always hate to ban the underage off our site, but we must do so, without exception, when we find them.  Some of the most imbecilic posts on our site have been made by some of our oldest memvers and some of the wisest posts have been by some of our younger members.

We're a harm reduction site and we attract generally the more intelligent ones, that they should be exempt is legal BS.

Don't ask, don't tell - its the law. Bluelight doesn't cause they are under another jurisdiction.

I did some thinking about this thread this morning and hopefully my insight helps

I think that first and foremost, try and have an honest talk with them about drugs and drug use

I think that would go a long way. My parents never had the talk about sex with me and frankly it has and still is affecting me. I had a lot of difficulty in my relationships with females and it took a lot of experimenting so to speak to sort of be sexually comfortable

Same with drugs. My physiology teacher told me that within minutes of taking a bong hit, you have a 25% chance of going psychotic for life. Simply untrue to say the least. Keep in mind this was every single bong hit, this liklihood would be 25%. I have taken hundreds possibly thousands of bong rips. Never felt psychotic

Professor also told me that dropping acid 3 times would make me legally insane. I have taken psyches prolly 15-30 times now. I would say that 25 times is a solid estimate. I am mentally healthy in all paramters

I was told that every line of coke would have a 25% chance of killing you within seconds of doing it. False

I was told that the first time anyone tried an opiate they would be addicted. I have tried opium multiple times now. 10-15 times. I have n0 addictive thoughts

I could give you a billion examples, but for a kid growing up in the suburb with immigrant parents, I wasn't really given an honest talk

I wish that I could back in time and tell my 15 year old self "Hey listen. Weed isn't going to kill you. you will get by in school fine too. But the friends you are making by smoking daily are sort of shitheads and by my age you will have cut them off. A lot of opportunities that you have coming to you will be thrown out the window because you smoke weed. Dropping acid is great. I understand you are curious. But start with yoga and meditation. Take your time and don't be in a such a hurry. Be patient.
I understand that your parents/physio teachers tell you that these chemicals will automatically ruin your life. The truth is, 90% of it is exaggerated garbage. The truth is that most of these are completely harmless when used properly and may even help open your mind. But the key here is that you are at far too young an age to realize how to do this. If you want to do it, read up extensively on how to do it. And do it with caution"

To be honest I was taking shrooms at 16. And that was just a dumb idea. I was not prepped for it. Obviously, the goal is to make the kid not do it at all. No drugs is usually better than some drugs. But the fact is, drugs can open your mind and experience a whole new realities that are simply unavailable to a sober mind. So "if you do proceed, use responsibly. Which means...."

The takeaway; don't give drugs to strangers. And the "Talk" about drugs and sex is a really important and goes a long way. For me, I never got the sex talk because my parents were awkward immigrants. and almost no kids get the drug talk. Thats why the kid in my thread OD'd. this "talk" never happens

I made some thread the other day about how people often debate sicentific facts that can be googled or are openly available on erowid. I would say show them this

The effect that this conversation has on a young kid could frankly save a lot of lives. I am not saying its a perfect solution. Because it isn't. But its a starting step in the right direction. And miles better than me learning the hard way. Honestly tell him the positives and negatives of every drug

Thanx topdog for your lengthy reply.

Had to laugh a bit when it made me think how it was for me in the 80s. My sex talk lasted for about 10 minutes. My parents are doctors. The talk was about the evolution of the mammalian sex organs. It was ridiculous. No one ever told me about how to please a woman, and what NOT to do to her. Now that info would have helped me a lot. On the other hand, it could have resulted in me still being with my ex , so better off now. (unfair, she is sweet).

The drugs talk simply did not happen. Imagine. My parents were in their 20s in the 1960s. They never even saw any kind of drug. Not once. They were straight edge to the extreme. If I remember correctly the only conversation we ever had about drugs was ONE remark my dad made to the point of exclaiming his utter unbelief that there were in fact people who willingly chose to try drugs. Although he did not say it like this, it was put on the same level as dressing up in drag and strolling the streets with two baby zebras while singing gospels. Why would you? End of talk.

Luckily I had my older brother. He told me all I needed to know. If he hadn't been there I'd have made a series of stupid mistakes.

No, of course having the talk is where it starts. And with my adult friends this is easy. We can have an informed conversation as equals. With a 19 year old this is a little more difficult, but certainly not impossible.

The most important thing, I feel, is to communicate that it is a completely natural desire to seek altered states.

Among my own friends there has been so much guilt about drug use. And I have seen a similar thing happen to my homosexual friends. Sometimes it seemed that they were on this guilt trip about their own desires. So unnecessary. Your desires are natural. Don't feel bad about them. All this guilt leads to tension, anger, and finally to wrong choices.

Second, I tell them to have their stuff tested, never do it on impulse, create the right set and settings. But with young ones this message doesn't always sink in. They take tokes from joints with who knows what in them. They take pills without questions on shady parties. It's all living in the here and now. Seldom about planning, thinking, and acting responsibly.

And this is the difficulty. By promoting responsible behavior I am creating a distance between youths and far off adults. Responsibility is almost uncool, something to avoid or else become a boring adult.

This worries me. Either I try to teach too good, and push them away. Or I remain implicit, and do not drive the point home.

Difficult.

Love, Hanz.

It's about the old teaching the young. Surely sex comes up, even if just once.

But there is a common issue I think. It's about how to responsibly deal with your desires.

Seen in that light sex and drugs, and a few other things, are quite comparable.
