Well, I live in a suburb of Oklahoma State University, I mean Stillwater, OK. I live within 1 1/4 hours of any house I've ever lived in (being almost equidistant to OKC and Tulsa). I live here because my parents don't make me pay rent while I work full time. I want to move back out, but I don't want to leave my job as it seems to be going well (2 raises in the first year, plus now they pick my full insurance, instead of me paying half). So when I do move out in the next year or so, I probably won't be moving very far. Unfortunately. I'd like to move somewhere far away, just to see something new, but I don't really want to get too far from my family, either.

I live in Orange County, CA. I was born in Maryland, where my dad was stationed for a year, and we moved out here 2 weeks later because both my mom's and dad's families lived in Los Angeles. So I've lived in O.C. all my life, but really can't say I'm a native.

This is "home". Yes, it's more crowded, and more expensive to live here, but I am familiar with it, and I don't really care for unfamiliarity. I like the familiar. I don't want to start over somewhere else.

There was a time that I was thinking about moving to Placerville, where it's a little quieter, but I had started my law career and didn't want to start over somewhere else, and develop new associates and contacts.

But since that idea, I have come to realize that I love the chaos of life in a big city. I love the race to get to work, and the lines at the stores, and people cutting in and out of traffic, etc.

If I was in a quiet town, it might be just a little too quiet for me. Or, at least, I'd need a big town up the road to go play pool.

My two oldest kids have moved away. The oldest moved because of the cost of living here, and the second oldest moved because her husband was transferred due to business.

I've driven through quite a few small towns when I've driven back and forth between here and Houston. They are just so darned small! The people are nicer, but there are so many less of them!

Okay, there's another reason for needing lots of people.  I wear everyone out, mostly, and therefore I need lots of people so when "this" group is tired of me, I can go harass "that" group.  By the time "that" group is worn out, "this" group will be ready for me again.

I'm sitting in this very, Very, VERY quiet law library.  When I read your post, I busted out laughing, it was so funny!  I am looking like quite the retard right now!

Hey, at least I haven't had to move yet!  Just think if I lived in a small town.  If people were really getting ready to tar and feather and whatever else, I'd have to move, and keep moving, probably.  I'd be a transient!

A big city allows me to move from person to person, wearing all 1,000,000 of them out, one person at a time.  :grin:

He did join, as "McCabe", I believe, but he obviously hasn't posted yet.

I am going to wait for him to come in here and talk about his thesis. I've seen him before, not at Starbucks, so next time I see him, I'll ask him to come in and comment on all this and about his thesis.

hmmm.... after 18, i left marietta, oh - a beautiful city in south east OH on the river, which unfortunately is full of backwards, right-wing conservative shits and went to college at OU in Athens, OH only about an hour away. Athens was a tight-knit community full of lax, intelligent, artistic, environmentally aware, beautiful kids... an extraoridinary place to grow up.... after college, i moved to columbus, oh where i was introduced into queer culture.... fell in love with the leather bars and bikers, sex and drugs.... finally, i wound up in seattle and here there's a beautiful landscape and a great mix of cultures... really, it seems to be a summation of every other place i've been. i love it.... would love to go live in san francisco, or possibly in NY.... right now, money is the concern.... i want to enjoy the cities for everything they're worth...... and i need a career.

My good friend lived in Orange County for a good part of his life, till about the end of 4th grade, and then he moved to north carolina, and then where he lives here now. He always likes talking about it.

DFW sucks, its a big shitty and all, and i dont like it. I wanna be near the water and smell the trees. I want to see the sun come up over the water, and watch the moon above it at night.

Have you ever read Less Than Zero, by Bret Easton Ellis? A very twisted book...
about kids in california and.. yeah.


DoctorJ is right about the way it is here. For me its become very problematic, ive traveled to other cities and i can tell that the people are much different. But to understand what its like you just have to come here and see it for yourself. It drives me nuts.

I just wanna see the ocean again, this place is filled with too many memories that i would rather not think about on a day to day basis. I was thinking of moving to florida or something like that, i thought about oregon, but i need to consider what happens when i get out of college. Till then my ass is stuck here in dfhell.

On the "thief" thread, which finally died a timely death, Mixamotosis said that Starbucks buys its coffee from 3rd world countries who basically pay their citizens slave labor wages to grow the coffee Starbucks buys, and that it's basically like stealing, or something, and that if I was going to adamently be against stealing, I shouldn't buy coffee at Starbucks.

Well, I'll tell you what I remember, for now. He is looking into reasons why people live where they live. He found people who lived in Siberia, where it's cold as hell, who have lived there all their lives with no intent of moving, just because they have "always" lived there.

He found people in New York who want to move to CA for the weather, and people in CA who want to move to NY for the "action".

There were some other things he said, but that's about all I remember, right now. But I think the gist of what I got was that people stay around where they were born because it's familiar, or something like that.

I really will keep my eyes open for him.

My only other comment about Texas, or maybe two comments, is first, the people are all pretty friendly and very polite.

Second, the state is just way too fuckin' big. Y'all need to divide it into four smaller states.

It takes me 12 hours, on the first day of driving, to get through CA, AZ, and NM. It takes 12 hours on the second day to get from El Paso to Houston. Just way to big.

Oh, a third thing...

All of y'all need to put some scenery off the 10. There's just nothin' to look at.

I grew up in Huntington Beach, in Orange County, about a quarter of a mile from the ocean. We used to walk to the beach every day during the summer, every summer, from the time I was 12 until I was 18.

We road our bikes to Newport Beach, to hang out, until we could drive. Then, we would drive up and down Seashore Drive, or Lane, and look for parties on a Friday or Saturday night.

We would end up on the beach some time during the night, after the parties. Really cool is the phosphorescence you could see during certain times of the year, which would glow "green" in the moonlight.

I love the beach, and even though I don't go as much as when I was younger, I couldn't imagine living so far from it that I couldn't just drive down there if I wanted to see it.

driving, ha, that seems like all i ever do here. you can walk anywhere significant besides my good friends house, maybe to the store. But to get to work, to school, drive, drive drive drive. everybody has a car. no public transit system. I-10 in eastern texas gets a lot nicer i think. Texas IS fucking huge. Dallas doesnt seem to compete with houston, maybe on murder rates, traffic, and pollution, otherwise i think more people live in houston. My mom likes it better there she thinks. Texas is so big, i wonder if people think they are in their own country here. lol, i need to get the F*** out of here.

I live in Belgium because I was born and raised here and because I'm still financially dependant on my parents. I like the area I live, but in general the people eihter can't be bothered or lack the intelligence to carry on stimulating conversation.
When I'm working and I need a change of scene, I might go to Holland or Canada, mainly for dope laws. In the case of Holland for the difference in attitude, in the case of Canada because the people there have more of a European attitude than those in the U.S. and because of the wildlife.
