“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

what is your stance on freaking people out? How much value do you place in acts which force others to question the role they are playing?

My stance? My position? I am in favor. I place much value on the Freak Out. It's a good thing to freak people out as much as possible. Nothing else seems to work as well as shock and fear. Or was that Shock and Awe?

I think that getting people to question things, especially their own beliefs and opinions, is generally a very good thing. I also think that relying solely on psychedelics to accomplish this would be a mistake. Yes, they can arouse such a sense of questioning and uncertainty, but not with everyone.

If you can get people to question things and stop taking things for granted with your words and actions, then you are a true spiritual friend, IMO.

If I said that I didn't freak people out then that would be a lie. I started when I was young being a punk rocker. I used to have this girlfriend walk me on a least and I would bark at everybody. Of course that was juvenile. Now I just tell people things and expect them listen or to do them, and make them seem reasonable before the person can put up barriers. That's the subtle way to get what you need.

"Operation Mindfuck - an insidious yet disorganized attempt to tear down your old mental paradigms without offering anything with which to replace them. Techniques include everything from elaborate pranks, to...well, simple pranks. Sort of a Zen version of the Merry Pranksters."

"Many, many people are engaged in fantasy lives, carrying out fantasy roles like actors in a play. Many of us here, myself included, are guilty of this to an extent."

Every human alive does this. They create a self image based on what they want others to think. Most people do this unconciously. There is no shame in this, but why not view our lives as abstract works of art, and proceed from there to construct ourselves from that standpoint. We are all dreamers indulging in an illusion. Why not make the illusion functional and aesthetically pleasing. You life is the canvas and awareness is the paint... BUT just freaking people out for fun...it probably just amounts to indulgence and self importance...and the people you freak probably don't care, but if it floats your boat...

"A warrior is a hunter. He calculates everything. That's control. Once his calculations are over, he acts. He lets go. That's abandon. A warrior is not a leaf at the mercy of the wind. No one can push him; no one can make him do things against himself or against his better judgment. A warrior is tuned to survive, and he survives in the best of all possible fashions." ― Carlos Castaneda
