Auto-SummaryThis post is a summary of Meher Baba's teachings on the cyclical nature of the universe and the evolution of consciousness. The cosmos expands and contracts in a process called Maha-pralaya, resetting the stage for the evolution of self-conscious and eventually God-Self-conscious life. The universe's history spans billions of years, with countless Mahapralayas occurring over its existence. Human life has evolved over millions of years, and will continue to do so, becoming smaller and more intelligent with each cycle. The first human beings were much larger and lived longer in the beginning of each cycle. The Creation-point is a finite point from which the entire infinite creation emerges, and the process of creation is ongoing and never-ending. Scientists struggle to understand the evolution of forms, but Meher Baba explains that it is due to the evolution of consciousness.
This post is simply is simply for those who may find this interesting!
"The moment Creation appeared, the entire cosmos became automatically goal-directed – designed for the sole purpose of evolving self-conscious and eventually God-Self-conscious life. This self-evident fact is missed by scientists, creationists, Darwinists and proponents of intelligent design in considering the origins of the universe and human life.
The Universe naturally expands and collapses after billions of years in what is called Maha-pralaya, Maha meaning 'great' and pralaya meaning 'collapse.' It then rests in the vacuum state for billions of years before expanding again, and after so many billions of years conscious organisms again form which will lead again the evolution of consciousness in the seven worlds of stone, plant, insect, worm, bird, animal and finally human form again appears on some earth as the shock point of the creation.
The expansion and contraction of the universe are like the clapping of hands, pulling them apart and clapping over and over. This is how the Universe works, simplistically put."
The following is from Meher Baba
Quote: One cycle is twelve thousand million years [12,000,000,000 – 12 billion years]. Scientists know nothing at all about cycles, but this hint will open their eyes. The evolution of THIS world began two billion years ago and evolution, which started from the nebula, will last until the completion of the cycle – when the Mahapralaya (the total dissolution of the universe) will take place. Scientists will never know when the universe began. The most they will be able to discover with advanced telescopes is when the last expansion of the universe took place. There have been countless Mahapralayas over the course of the universe's history. The human form has been evolving for millions of years and will continue to evolve. After a billion years, man will only be five inches in height at the most but will be very brainy. In the beginning of this cycle, man was fourteen feet tall and would live up to three hundred years.
If I were answer that the first man came upon this earth eighty-four million years ago, what would that mean to you? But the whole explanation will make you understand how the first man evolved, and how this first-evolved man has repeatedly, millions of times, been appearing not only on this earth, but on millions of earths [that have come, burned out and gone]. And so he is ageless, timeless. But this has all to be explained properly.
The Book which I personally wrote [1925-6] when I had just stopped speaking and which I wrote in one year . . . explains this point clearly. It is important for the world and the scientists to know, and therefore I have explained about cycles, the position of the earth for Realization, the earth dying and the simultaneous evolution of another earth – not just any other planet; when was the first human being evolved, when was the first Realized Being, whether the chicken or the egg came first – all has been revealed in detail in that Book [which is as yet unpublished and not available yet to the public, possibly in the last quarter of this century]. These are Excerpts from the biography of Avatar Meher Baba, Lord Meher p. 4070 http://www.lordmeher.org type in page number on left side search bar.
I have the actual experience of it today and feel the universe and creation emanating and projecting out of me. I feel all today that which I had a mere glimpse of then. Creation evolves and involves only re-evolving again. It is a never-ending game! I’ve explained it all in detail in my book. Even scientists will be astonished to learn the secrets explained there – not vague talks, but facts, substantiated and supported by scientific arguments. It will be the future Bible – not in the literal sense – but a book of understanding for people of all religions. [Lord Meher p. 1606–07]
The Creation-point is a finite point. And out of this finite point the whole of the infinite creation is issuing forth. It is a continuing process; there is no end to it. Out of a Speck in the infinity, called the Creation-point, has sprung forth this whole creation in various stages. This world of ours is nothing but a most finite speck in the Speck. Although to you it appears to be worlds and universes, for me it is nothing – not even a tiny speck. Scientists will gradually come to know what I have been saying for many years and am repeating today. It is not possible to see all the universes and worlds. They are not visible even with the most modern means. Nor will it be possible for man to reach them or contact them; yet, scientists will come to know about it. [Lord Meher p. 6005]
Scientists understand evolution from the first life to the last human life, but none knows why this evolution of forms takes place. After human life what is there? The scientists know nothing! It is due to the evolution of consciousness that all forms evolve. For example, take the body as consciousness and clothes as the body. Now, the size of this shirt is according to your body. If a hand is cut off tomorrow, the shirt might be minus one sleeve. So, due to consciousness the body changes.
