Facebook "threat" ?
    #22172168 -

Got into a fight with someone on facebook. They're not on my friend list. One of the things I said was, "I know where you work bitch, don't piss me off." But I made no threats. I never said anything like, "I'm going to do such and such to you." All I said was that I know where she works. That in and of itself is not a threat.

She said she got my ip address and that she's submitting it to the cops tomorrow. Does she really have anything on me? I also stated in the messages that I had no plans of doing anything, that if I was really going to do anything I wouldn't be talking about it.

I'm kinda scared. Should I delete my facebook?

Nothing's going to happen. Cops have better shit to do than play middle man for some highschool drama that doesn't involve direct threats of violence

First, they don't have your IP. The people actually able to figure out that kind of information, compared to how many people on the internet make that claim, means it's pretty much a given they're full of shit. Even if they did so what. It's Facebook, they already have your name. It's not some anonymous website. That right there tells you it's just empty threats.

There are two different answers depending on exactly what you're asking. CAN something come of this? Yes. WILL it likely happen? No.

In all honesty/practicality, the threat simply isn't specific enough to charge you and have those charges stick. In a totally technical sense, the case can be made that you willingly said it to terrorize and intimidate the other person. It's kind of weak though..

I've kinda been in this situation myself at one point. I said "I'm finding it hard to resist going to get my gun" or something along those lines in relation to someone doing something I felt was bullshit and was only done to fuck me over and maybe even make me homeless. I was blowing off steam and venting. It was very stupid of me to say that, but that's the reason and I did it. Anyways the person I said it to went and told the person it was about and then a police report was filed.

I was never even approached by a cop over the incident. I found out through sources that the cops basically told the other person that it wasn't specific enough to do anything about it from their side and all they could do was file a restraining order.

However, be aware, if the police report does get filed, it can be used against you in the future if you do something like that again. If they start to see a pattern, regardless of how vague you are, they're gonna come to talk to you at the least.

Also thank god I just happened to phrase it how I did. I'm sure there's really no doubt in anyone's mind what I was implying, but implying is not proof. Mine is a hell of a lot more specific than yours though.

They only reason the police would keep that report is in case the person you threatened was killed a short time after that incident they would have you as a prime suspect.

@ Anon #1: Anon #3 is correct the cops can't do shit to you for saying that. It's not a threat of violence for all they know you could of been referring to telling her boss something that would get her fired. I've personally witnessed an altercation where a friend of mine said 'I should grab my gun and shoot you motherfuckers' to a group of people he was arguing with and they called the cops. When the cops arrived and asked him if he said that he just said 'no I don't even own a gun' and they left lmao. On the internet it's different obviously because there is evidence of exactly what you said, but all I'm saying is they really don't give a fuck about threats unless it's someone important being threatened or if there is a reason for them to take it seriously such as you actually have the weapon visible or. Threats online even detailed ones aren't going to get a cop's attention unless it's special circumstances

You made an indirect threat. Not exactly important but cease communication at least.

Um yah, I didn't think anything would happen. I told this bitch during the little high school fight to go ahead and tell the cops, they will just laugh at her.

Cops have better things to do, like pulling people over for speeding and catching meth dealers.

Thanks for the validation that everything will be ok.

This is EXACTLY the reason why I ONLY EVER give INDIRECT threats, never direct ones. There's a huge difference between saying, "I know where you work" and "I know where you work and I'm going to kill you."

Deleting your facebook won't really accomplish anything anyways. Facebook messages are like E-mails. Once they're in the other persons inbox, they have them until they decide to delete them.

'Deleting' your account does nothing.

Your message is permanently stored on facebook's database, regardless of if you or the other person 'deletes' it. This is true for EVERYTHING that is posted or updated by its users onto facebook.

You can't even 'delete' a facebook account, only make it inactive and hidden from public search or view. But it is still there, on their company storage.

This is why they still send emails asking for you to come back, and if you do. Right when you log back on, all the old shit will still be right there

Just something i would think about, before continuing to use their website

Fuck facebook.

Then don't say or post stupid shit on Facebook. It's not hard to not get arrested over Facebook shit.

I heard one kid posted lyrics to an eminem song and got swatted.

Oddly enough they found guns and bullet proof vests but they only went on him posting those lyrics.

Other than the occasional funny post what's really the point of facebook? Do people feel popular or something when they post some bullshit about their day and get a handful of likes? Fucking stupid IMHO. In a year of using facebook I saw some funny picture posts, but other then talking to friends via messenger (which is easily replaced by texting) I never saw a legitimate purpose for it.

Facebook is for egotistical bastards.

I could take a shit and post it to facebook. People would respond to it, and thats the only point.

I would rather talk to the lowest of the low than people on facebook

Nothing is worse then those fuckers who play those facebook games. I thought people who read and post on facebook a lot throughout the day were stupid until I met a few people who play the games on there lmfao. The games aren't even games for the most part it's just a few tabs of bullshit and shitloads of waiting. And of course the popular FarmVille: "Oh hold up I got to farm my crops" *clicks 1000 times to harvest just so he can click 1000 more times to replant the same bullshit he just harvested for no apparent reason* "OMG this game is so sick!"
