Wondering about Life while tripping
    #2176961 -

A little while ago I ate about 2.5 grams and it was for a little very intense. I started wondering about my life, and I came to this conclusion that life is pretty pointless because I and people really don't do anything during the course of it. I was thinking that living just isn't enough, that there is something more out there for us. It was a very scary thought seeing that it was like my 5th time eating shrooms and it wierded me out alot. But over the next couple of days I have been trying to make sense of it, if it can make sense. Does anyone get thoughts like these on shrooms? I would call it the only sort of wierd, confusing part of my trip.

Yes, this is exactly what the mushroom trip does for me. It seems to remove all the social conditioning that tells me why I do what I do, and all I end up with is nothing. There is nothing.

But I always say to myself 'I can never understand this when I come back', and I really can't. I really want there to be something else.

Im glad you understand me! It was sort of like, while I was on the shrooms, everything else in sober life seemed wierd and alien and just plain pointless. It was so strange I can't even describe it.

Yeah, it's a very powerful and strange experience... I've tried to break through what 'I am' and see the same while sober, but I can't do it. I can talk about it, but it doesn't mean anything, I can't really comprehend it.

When you think about it when sober, you'll eventually come to the same conclusion: there is no point in living the lives we live today. Gathering resources through labour, spending your labour on another man's labour, and then wanting more. Silly, if you ask me.
The only universal point of life is to be happy. The rest is personal make-believe. You need this make-believe to be happy, but other than that, it has no inherent value.
An example of this self-delusion is that the goal of life is to learn. Great, but why learn in the first place? To be content with who you are, in turn leading to happiness.
Another self-delusion: life is about accomplishing great deeds. Great, but why perform great deeds? Because you genuinely want to help out your fellow man? Possibly. More likely: you want others to think of you as a good person, you want to fulfill the personal need to provide for others, so YOU, in turn, can be HAPPY.

Isn't the fact that all actions are egotistical more an observation on human nature than an actual understanding of a universal point?

To your question, a question: isn't the fact that humans have lived in what can be called a society for ten thousands years without discovering the true purpose of the universe an indication that it cannot be found?

i think we have discovered that, dear Mr. Stone.

that purpose being: for every individual to find their individual purpose in life.

Ok, so what you're saying is that in this abstracted thing that we perceive as reality, the ultimate point is happiness. But this isn't necessarily the true purpose of the universe.

If that's what you're saying, then I agree.

That's the purpose of human life, not to be identified with the purpose of the universe.

stone: can you assign a human concept like "purpose" (which is rooted in egoism) to the universe at large? not really.

does the universe have a favourite colour?

If you believe there is intelligence behind the universe, that intelligence might have had a purpose?

I don't subscribe to those beliefs, but I've noticed that there are some people who do

purpose in life: go where you are drawn to, or sit still and play headgames with yourself.

ya!! I know what you mean, but you may find that it really isn't pointless but more it is miniscule. in the grand scheme of things you really might not matter at all. it's ok, it's just another perspective, to humble you maybe???? I remember the same thing for me, and once it's ok that you know you are small and what's out there isn't, it's ok, because it's just more for you to explore!

why isn't living enough?? what more do you want?? you exist..you know what that means?? really sit back and think about what it means to be HERE NOW! to feel happiness, to feel anger, to feel. just to feel, to be alive, you really might want to celebrate it more than you may have before.

know you exist, for a reason or not it's unsure, but get the most out of life that you can. enjoy the moment, and like someone posted here before "relish in it"

oncey opu can enjoy the simple fact that you are here (and mean really appreciate it) things will get easier, and a lot less pointless. we are on a journey maybe? to learn, about ourselves???

maybe??

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

If I somehow implied that the universe has a purpose, please forgive me. I'm not sure if it does. We can't be sure is what I think.

i've always believed that the purpose to existance was to reproduce. It's what all the other organisms do; each at a rate corresponding to their biology and environment, but still their overall goal is still to make more of themselves.

Then I figured that I was incapable of reproducing; though I could try and prevent the deaths of humans by becoming a doctor or something, I'd prefer to do just die. So I'm intending on doing whatever I have to do until I die.

I figure that I will do whatever I've been conditioned to do, rather than try and go outside my desires.

Does that make any sence?
sorry, I'm high because it's my birthday

I desided the point of existance/life is to be more interesting. There is a balance to everything, and its more interesting to have the balance changing than to be still. No matter what everything comes down to a neutral equal "0" level. But its more interesting to have the level go 5, -4, 7, -13, 6, then -1even tho it avages to 0. Isn't it better to sometimes be hot and sometimes to cold than to always be in the middle? I think the universe is more interesting with all this stuff happening in it than if it was just empty blackness.

Its cool to have so many different colors, it doen't matter that when you mix them all together you get white. You still prefer the rainbow

How bold my dear Stone, you weren't there a few thousand years ago. Chances are that other societies before this one had discovered the true purpose, or were at least much closer than we are. Many valuable things get suppressed, you know, when they don't fit the interests of those in charge, many valuable things even get spontaneously forgotten, for various reasons. I would agree with part of your statement if it read: "... have lived in what can be called a society for two thousand years...". Before that, societies and their values tended to be very different.
