Strange question about spirit guide
    #21212449 -

This might sound crazy.  I have lots of animals that I spiritually associate with.  They have come to me in visions and I genuinely have learned a lot from these archetypal animals.  Even if these are just constructed as metaphorical lessons buried deep inside my psyche, they have helped me become a better person and learn about myself.

After one of these "spirit animals" comes into my life, I like to honor them in some type of way in order to keep the lesson fresh in my mind, and also to have the energy of that spirit with me in my life.

Lately, the Salmon has come into my life, and it's lesson was utterly INSPIRING and powerful for me.  I ended up getting a tattoo of a salmon, and am changed by my encounter with it.

Salmon also happens to be one of my favorite meals.  I eat a lot of salmon, and lately I'm starting to feel bad about it.  I cant tell whether it's like me further acquiring the power of this animal, or disrespecting it by eating it.

Any thoughts?  I sound so psychotic posting this, but it's a belief of mine and it makes me a better person, and is very important to me.

i have a few spirit allies, i believe you.
as someone who tries to eat less animal products i always feel lighter, conscience free, and eating for the sake of nourishment over pleasure.

from my experience, this helps me get closer to my "friendlies" not because ive earned some sort of merit, but because its easier to leave aside my minds game

Same here, I am a Buddhist style vegetarian, which means I will only eat meat if someone else offers it to me, but I never purchase or hunt meat for myself. I would recommend not eating salmon at least for a time, out of respect for the animal. I believe that eating less meat helps to make a person more spiritual but I do not believe it is morally wrong to eat meat because in the Bible God says that he gave animals to man.

In my personal opinion, 99% of the humans on this planet will be vegan in 50 years.

In fifty years, if we are still here, we will be eating synthetic meats created in the laboratory.  There will be no need for further farming and slaughtering of animals.  You could probably 3-D print a porterhouse for dinner if you wanted to.

So I doubt everyone will be vegan.

wouldn't being vegan be easier (and more affordable) than synthetic meats though? what benefits do synthetic meats pose that a vegan diet doesn't? afaik, a vegan diet is usually considered at least as healthy if not healthier than a diet with meat - and i would think synthetic meat would have the same nutritional properties as real meat.

My only point was that, if such a thing comes to pass, we will no longer have to harm animals at all.  One can then eat meat without the moral quandary.  I wasn't commenting on the health benefits.

true  that would be preferable over killing animals for meat. though i guess i'm a bit weirded out about the idea of growing meat in a lab  (doesn't sound too appetizing to me) but if people prefer to go that way over real meat then that's good i think

if you love salmon so much, but feel bad about eating them i suggest you put the effort into fishing for them yourself. you will feel alot more connected to it and can thank the live fish for its gift of food then immediately club it to death so it doent suffer sounds brutal but that what i do with all the animals i kill and i kill and eat a lot of wild animals.

I feel bad often eating most things, but one thing that i keep with that helps me and might you, specially since you mentioned disrespecting, is to make sure it's not 'wasted'. i like to look at what im likely to do, or will be doing, if i know that is, when i eat. like i wont eat foods from animals (like meat and milk and cheese and such, most importantly meat though because that requires death) if i'm not going to do anything useful, or havent done anything useful. like if i'm gonna spend the day being productive in a way that involves physical labor, or heavily intellectual 'labor', or if i've been doing stuff all day thats physically laborious and i have to recover from, then it's okay to eat meat and such.

if i'm just gonna have a fun carefree day and relax and lollygag about and whatnot, like gaming and daydreaming and walking and easy work, i won't because i believe it's extremely disrespectful and completely lacking in compassion. i like to go by the food chain though, the more actually 'productive' and creative and such stuff im gonna do, like the more energy consuming but value/worthwhileness producing stuff ill do, the higher on the food chain ill eat that day. if i'm being super lazy or whatnot, ill only stick to the lowest parts. for a rough and simpler view, if im not gonna be moving much, then i should only eat more immobile things like plants, if i will be moving much, then i can eat things that will to, so there's no tossed away work or anything.

i think it'd just be terrible for some animal to build up all sorts of muscles and have all sorts of abilities and potentials, just to turn into me playing a video game for 5 hours straight, i can just have lettuce and applies and raisins and nuts then. like a 'stay even or grow/progress' in terms of the 'evolution' that matter has went through in its evolution. like eating cow just to stare at a screen is like tearing down a house so you can get a little wood to build a fire, you could just grab some grass and sticks off the ground and make a fire just fine and a big complete house doesnt have to be wasted or any of the work put into it disregarded and disrespected. i think respect or disrespect in terms of food mostly depends on what it's turned or 'transmuted' into, what the output is

Yes Ravendance I too have felt a connection to certain animals. I like to go out into nature to have solitary time and meditate. Sometimes when i am doing that i see animals and i feel a special connection to them. I doubt that they feel the same way about me however! I have seen fox and coyote and felt admiration for their wildness and cunning. Recently i saw a pair of golden eagle flying about 100 feet overhead. They screeched and flew by very fast looking for prey. It made me feel very happy not to be a jackrabbit or baby deer. Those eagles were bold and fearless.  There is much that we can learn from animals if we take time to obeserve them.

Exactly.  My name comes from this trip I took where a raven flew to a branch near me and I vividly remember it saying "I'm a raven, you're a raven", then proceeded to show me how my strengths and weaknesses were that of a raven's.  Crazy stuff.  Now ravens come to me in dreams and such. I definitely think animals can teach us a lot.

As for my perspective on this subject. Its only a matter of adjustment for our spirit guides to show themselves to us in the animal form.

Now, If you dont feel like eating certain types of food. In this case salmon. Heed your feelings and don't. Doing or not doing something based on respect is not feeling IMO.

And on the subject of vegetarians and/or vegans. I become somewhat agitated when those people talk about benefits of that diet and suffering of animals.. how its cruel and what not.

Well let me tell you this, plants are also living beings and although they dont have face, arms and legs, that does not mean that they dont suffer based on fear. And in my eyes they are no more nor less worthy on this planet then any animal, humans included..

a spirit animal is so much more than a long analogy so my first thought is to look at the salmon and what it means to humans, and then to throw that out and begin again as allies where we are all more symbiotic than mere predators/tees.  and when dealing with spirit guides one is working on synaptical levels of energy where often meaning is a lower form of insight and the feeling is the reality - people always want to make meaning of their feelings and yet often we just should sense where we are going like how the salmon just senses from hundreds of miles against the current where they need to go, salmon is a good spirit guide for this feeling of things and returning to the source

Finally someone stands for the flora! I literally cry when i harvest my plants and fungi. They were my babies i raised through sickness and health. I listened to them and watched over them, provided life and then took it for my own use.

I can remember every plant i have grown from seed or a young age. Its a very strong bond, my 15 year old california buckeye tree grew up with me! I consider him my brother from another mother (his mother was a favorite of mine to play on as a child so it has created a strong relationship between me and the california buckeyes)

its kind of like dialup internet vs cable , we can eat meat and kill, that was part of our past, but its not efficient, creates a lot of problems, and being a vegetarian or vegan is a higher input of spiritual energy and light. There is a reason the yogis generally are vegetarian or vegan, their desire to be one with the light has given them insight into the reality that while all is conscious, sentient beings such as salmon or etc are worth honoring, respecting, and not wasting our time and energy in eating

however, i have been thoroughly brainwashed by commercials to, though being vegetarian, view these commercials for meat as "delicious" , when before i fought against the commercials, thinking them evil.
