Here is a culture made from the spores of that morel,I originally identified it as Morchella esculenta. But I understand there is some confusion in the taxonomy of Morchella.

Like plants, some fungal species (for example Botrytis cinerea) [18] have an endogenous biosynthesis pathway for ABA. In fungi, it seems to be the MVA biosynthetic pathway that is predominant (rather than the MEP pathway that is responsible for ABA biosynthesis in plants).

Botrytis cinerea is a white mold that grows on grapes in grape vineyards.

it is what makes Thompson seedless grapes SO plump and juicy and it is a mold that the grape farmers want growing on those grapes.

Look at post # 9483819 by Acid Horse.  The cluster of Morels, are they growing off just one sclerotia?

Well if anyone of you have a spore print of any kind, let me know...lol... And I think I got the BlimeyGrimey joke, he posted the link to grow indoors on that mushroom website.

I was thinking, what if so called indoor cultivators actually cultivate the sclerotia outdoors to get large enough, then collect it and grow indoors to form the fruit bodies?

Good luck digging them up. Or even locating them.

Cool to see this thread back up and running. I agree these plant hormones could be the key. Looking forward to experimenting indoors this winter.

Im going to try and get it going indoors just in a culture though then transporting outside using different methods.  If that is semi successful ill try to get the whole thing indoors.

I bet these guys didn't create a drought situation in the greenhouse. They were probably watering liberally.

probably, also natural rain could have played a part as well.  What works for outside will have to be altered indoors IMO

SECTION XII

                    MISCELLANEOUS USES
MUSHROOM CULTURE
Dense mats of mycelia composed of separate  brown and white
strands were observed during the  spring of  1970 in plots
where sludge was incorporated into soil the previous fall.
Two species of fungi are  associated with these  colored
mycelia.  The brown color characterizes the dominant growth
of the Morchella species  or the "morel",  and the white
mycelium that of the pedodendron  species.  These two fungi
are invariably found in mixed mycelial  association.  Growth
of Morchella sp.  appears  to be dependent  upon association
with Oedodendron (5).

The observed mycelium was very productive of morel sporophores
Sludge amendments favored growth  of morels  of excellent
quality and large size (Figure 24).

The unexpected and large  numbers  of morels  collected from
sludge amended plots were indicative of a possible key
role for  clarifier sludge as  a component of a morel  culture
medium.  Commercial mushroom  interests  have  long sought a
successful morel  culture  medium.  However the physical or
chemical  factors  required to  shift  the  mycelium to fructi-
fication  or morel development  have  not  been  found.

To  test the effect of  sludge  amendments on morel production
a special test plot was established.  Sludge at 200  T/A
was  rototilled into a  10  by 38 foot  plot.  The  sludge
amended plot was  inoculated with  a heavy suspension  of
mycelial  fragments  and spores  prepared  from morels collected
earlier.  Ammonium nitrate was  added to £ of the plot to
give a C:N of  100:1.  Reduced  light  intensity and  increased
humidity  of plot was produced by  constructing a box-like
cover which fitted  20 inches above the bed with sides
extending downward  to within 6  inches of the soil  surface.

Morels continued to appear during the springs of 1971 and
1972.  Production of morel was almost without exception
associated with sludge amended plots.  The mushrooms
developing  in the grassy walkways between beds were
consistently located on the downhill drainage or runoff
side of sludge supplemented plots.  However> no morels
occurred on the special plot with the box cover during
either spring of 1971 or 1972.

Some limited  studies were  conducted by Dr. C. Fordyce  (5)
of the  U. S.  Department of Agriculture at Beltsville,
Maryland, who became interested in morel growth on the
experimental  plots.  His work showed Morchella grew well
with abundant sclerotia formation when ammonium nitrate
and yeast extract were added to sludge.  His studies also
indicated differences in utilization of sludge by different
strains of Morchella.  Use of sludge as casing medium  for
Agaricus campestrls, the mushroom of commerce, was not
satisfactory  as A. campestris could not penetrate the
sludge  layer.  Contamination of sludge under mushroom
house conditions by Trie he-derma and Aspergillus species
was observed  by both the USDA and a commercial grower.

I was reading last night on trees, carbon, the chemicals released etc.

Here is my take on it.

So during a forest fire oir drought, a decidious tree would send ABA to the seeds and buds to close up shop early.  These seeds in a forest fire would receive the ABA and most likely drop to the forest ground because of the fire.  If the Tree still survives, It sends existing ABA to the leaves to restrict their growth, drop them if any, form new buds if possible and prepare for winter.  The seeds that do drop might be GOLD to Morels because of the high concentration of ABA in them.

Some trees may not drop any seeds, because they never started developing them the year prior when there could have been a drought.  This possibly could be the reason why morels grow in some areas, and some areas not even though they could be in the same area
Trees are primairly made of Carbon if my research is correct.  Burnt trees release huge amounts of Carbon that fall to the ground from the tree above the ground.  this directly is dumped on the ground over the existing foliage.  Soon, all this carbon will find its way back up to the atmosphere as C02

The trees that are dead underground have Carbon as well that will be released back into the atmosphere as C02, through the breaking down of carbon by microbs.  During this phase, within the first year, HUGE amounts of C02 will pass through the top layer soil, from root to ground level as decomposition occurs.  The Morels growth could be the result of a number of things.  The ABA from the seeds, layers of carbon or C02 on the top of them (ash) and on the bottom of them (decomposing tree root), Or possibly bushes that have seeds and can drop them in the same manner as trees in time of drought or fire.  Didnt you find some bushes that morels were growing around that had red seeds?
