Is anyone experienced with morels?
    #1782846 -

Are these wee sclerotia?
They are woody to touch and brown all the way through.
They formed in a long forgotten morel jar and i want some conformation before i get excited.
Thanks.

No I didn't try to fruit them indoors yet. It seems quite complicated.
For now I just made several outdoor patches.
Here are the pictures of my Morchella angusticeps culture:

You can see that micro sclerotia form also on agar.

Nice, ugly though.
What sort of agar?
How did you spawn out your patches?
Have they fruited?

Agar is PDYA. I prepared grain spawn and inoculated outdoor beds made of mixture of sawdust, ash & soil. I hope to get fruits next spring.

Did you guys start with spores, spawn, or tissue clone from a fruit body.

I was reading in Stamets book "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms? that the guy who discovered how to grow morels indoors did it by accident. It also stated that he did it using a casing method designed for Psilocybe mushrooms.

From what I can remember, the guy grew up the mycelium on nutrient rich substrate until sclerotia formed, and then he spawned it into a non-nutrient rich substrate and used a casing designed for Psilocybe mushrooms. I will have to go and re-check that info out, as I do not have access to the book right now.

Hmmm. Pretty sure the sclerotia form in the casing cos it is less nutrient rich. This also may explain why the sclerotia formed on the glass of my jars, where there was no nutrient rich substrate only water from condensation.
I bought my culture as a bag of innoculated substrate from a really shit comercial spawn vendor.
I managed to isolate my pure culture from the substrate. Man that was a long shitty irretating task.

Thanks for the info Walk.
Have'nt had a chance to check out the book agian yet, but I am interested in any type of observations made in the cultivation of these mushrooms, mainly the yellow/white species.

Here are a couple of links that I have picked up along the way:
