Dude, you can't even get student loans with a record. You need to get your record clean if possible - as in pay whatever you have to/ The system is pretty fucked up - as in the people who need the most help get shit on the most. I think the old saying is "Shit rolls down hill"

And the whole point of my post was that OP doesn't need to "save" anything to clear his record - if he was waited the mandatory "waiting period" and hasn't gotten in trouble since the original felony (and I do mean ANY trouble - no DUIs, no misdemeanors of any sort - not even a fucking speeding ticket) then he can have it expunged himself by just going down to the courthouse and filing the paperwork himself. Then, he will be given a date where he'll go to a hearing where it will be decided it they will expunge it or not.  There is no need for a lawyer if you've waited the mandatory time and you haven't been in ANY other trouble.  Since that is already the best possible scenario.
If you've waited the mandatory waiting period to file, but you HAVE gotten in other trouble since, then yeah I would lawyer up since you're gonna need the work of a professional mouthpiece to pull that one off.

No, but your analogy does not apply here.  These are different customers, not the same friends.  They're also in a novel situation.  While you stand at the same counter for hours every day, they come into the store every now and then.  They're in a different mindset. They think they are being friendly and personable and aren't taking into account that you're a miserable person who hates his job.

I think it's worth making the effort to be empathetic and personable to customers, no matter how repetitive and fruitless it can seem.  I work a job where I end up on the phone regularly with people demanding help. Some of them cry, some yell.  Most of them tell me in detail why their life sucks.  I can't help any of them because my job has nothing to do with what they're asking for; I refer them to another agency. Every day. 

While it sucks, and I naturally have bad people skills, I've learned to adapt and be empathetic.  I don't let them annoy me at all, I just be polite and professional and then I do my best to never bitch about it.  It has helped me not hate my job.   

Maybe you don't think you're paid enough to make the effort, but if you don't change your perspective on it, you're just going to hate your life even more.  It's also a useful skill to have.
