I think the best way is to do it very gradually.

1. Lock your door! Don't let him come to your house, if he does just wait it out, even if your truck is there just say you were out with someone else, or walking or something just make an excuse. Eventually he will stop, if every time he does not get in.

2. In any socal situation, don't say to much unless it will really offend him. Be a dick, if he is drunk revving his truck talk to him about your friend who died because of a drunk diver, if he is talking about getting high, make him feel like a drug addict, belittle his job, appearance, haircut but in way that is not obvious so he cant full on freak out without seeming like a dick himself.

3. Never answer text, phone calls, or in person AVOID AVOID AVOID, make shit up.

Eventually he will not want to hang out with you, I've done this before and it works amazingly well. They detach from you before they get hurt to badly, you dont have to do much other then make excuses. The biggest thing is SAY WHAT YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT HIM TO HIM but again in a way that is nonchalant.

I don't think being rude or super obnoxious will work. Ignoring him would take awhile if it would work at all.

You have to tell him you need space, and you WON"T be able to hang out much of this summer.  Chances are you will find yourself hanging out sporadically through out the summer at best unless you tell him "this is the end".  Tell him to try to meet other people so he won't be alone, and that you want to spend time this summer away from each other. If you want to be generous make up a story where it looks like you're the weird one so he won't feel so bad.

Hahaha, Oh man that movie looks perfect. Downloading now.

And, I've decided I'm going to send him an email, when I'm 3 hours away from here at my parents place visiting, tell him straight up I don't want to be friends anymore, that we are fundamentally too different. Brief, to the point, simple, no discussion.

Then I'll have like a week in the city away from here to wait for him to cool down if necessary.
