Going to Switzerland! Amsterdam? Need suggestions/help

Ok, here's the situation.
My good friend has an uncle who owns a ski lodge in Switzerland. He is going to spend the next few months there working for the ski season.
He has offered me and my girlfriend free room there. We just have to pay for our plane tickets.
1. How do I find the cheapest flight? 2. I would LOVE to have a day layover in Amsterdam if possible. a. Where should I go while there? b. Where should I stay? c. Is there anything else I should be aware of? 3. One day while in Switzerland, I would like to rent a car and go exploring, is there anything I should know? ie. Would it be difficult for me to rent a car. What do I have to do to be able to legally drive?
Is weed legal in Switzerland? I thought I heard once that it is.
The mountain that his ski lodge is on is Mt. Stoos. Anyone heard of it? He said it is about 1.5 hours drive east of Zurich.
Anything anyone can share or suggest to me would be greatly appreciated!

They sell it in little bags that they call "herbs" like a scented bag. I don't know for sure if it's legal, but they do sell it in all kinds of little shops, in the little bags. When I was there, all the shops never opened until 12:00 p.m. and my train left at 11:00 a.m. (I was pissed) but luckily I bumped into two guys who sold me half of what they had. It was so funny because neither of them spoke much English and I never spoke Swiss... but I'll never forget it! When in Italy (overlooking the Mediterranean), we smoked it along with some hash that we scored in Germany. It was amazing. I hope you and your gal go... DO IT! Cheers, Sally
