help me save my friend from coke!!!!

my friend is only 15 and most of the time he's cool, despite moodswings. Hes on drug testing and had about 1.5 weeks to do drugs and get clean. I wanted him to do shrooms or dxm then smoke some bud with me, but instead at this party he locked himself in the bathroom with another coke head. He told me he did about 5 or 6 lines and he was tweaking out. He said he would do it again, but not for a while, but i know he's gonna get sucked into coke. My question is how can I get my friend to not do coke again and get him more into psychedelics :mushroom2:??? I need answers soon or he'll do it again!!!!

1) You cannot save your friend from coke. The will to get away has to come from within. Nobody can do it for you, so to speak.

2) Going to a party with drugs is not a good way to help your friend. Until your friend seperates himself from the drug culture, he will remain hooked. IMHO, trying to switch him from coke to something else will be self-defeating. (I have been known to be wrong from time to time...)

Yeah he's made a choice and if you confront him and tell him to stop he'll just get upset with you.

I actually think offering him hallucinogens as an alternative might work.

Anytime I've stopped using a drug, it's because i've become interested in another. I used to take a lot of ecstasy before I discovered psychadelics. Never had an E since i started picking and growing shrooms. Mainly cos they're so expensive compared to shrooms, but still...

Eventually he'll run out of money, if he tried to support a coke habit, and then you'll be able to offer him some free drugs that grow out of cow turds.

or better yet, learn respect for drugs. using mushrooms because other drugs are too expensive to get fucked up on cheapens the experience. figuratively and literally.
take the mushrooms and grow as a person with a better understanding of yourself and others. let your addiction be learning.
it will make the hard fun fucked up drugs seem redundant and a waste of time. thats the only way i can see it helping you get off the coke; by putting things in a more intense and meaningful perspecte.

As long as the crowd that uses the hallucinogens is not the same crowd that uses coke, I would tend to agree with you. The guy has to seperate himself from his cokehead friends, or he will never be able to quit. The temptation and pull of that drug is just too damn strong. If he has associated hallucinogens with coke use, then I doubt that trying to get him to switch you help.

yup, everyone i knew that did/sold coke also did halucinogens. although psychedelics helped me completely get coke out of my life, i havent touched any of that stuff for over 2 years now and i never want to do it again

Yeah, definitely don't try to get him to do dxm if he's doin coke. DXM in my opinion is not worth it, is addicting, and just as bad as coke. Tell him what you think about him doing it, without pressuring him and see how he responds. If he doesn't respond well, then there probably isn't any hope......Peace

coke sucks,, I do it every year 1 or 2 times... Get all fucked up make myself look like a mentally challenged idiot with all my facial contortions. Then hide in my bed for 2 or 3 days...(That's what I did this weekend and regret it "fuckin coke heads"), And realise why I don't do coke... Just hope he doesn't start smoking the shit,, then he's fucked.. In my experience you either love coke or hate it...

Frankly, I haven't had any experience with coke, nor do I want to, but knowing that s/he/it has a supportive friend that still loves him/her/whatthefuck can only help them, as much as much as it may hurt you in the meantime. In the long run, I imagine that you'll be a stronger and wiser person for helping someone else deal with something of this magnitude. Chin up, bitch, and keep it Smurfy!

Hmm... That's too bad...

Cocaine, is definitely a bad drug to get on the wrong side of. It has this ability to suck you in, and make you think everything is ok, even when things are fucked.

The time to get him to stop is now, before he gets in too deep. If he gets hooked, then after he gets too far gone, they'll be no talking to him, and he probably won't stop until he reaches some sort of "personal bottom," which sadly, can be pretty far down...

Psychedelics, like mushrooms can be a good alternative, and may help re-direct him, but there's no easy answer to this...

I've had a lot of experience with the depths of cocaine abuse, and I don't have any easy answers. It really depends on the person, and the situation, and even then it's really up to the person. Once someone gets bit by the bug, then they won't really listen to anyone, so the time to talk to him is now. Maybe try to get his attention focussed elsewhere... a good psychedelic trip or two... hiking, sports, or some kind of athletic activity... try to subtly steer him away from people, places, and situations where coke is likely to be...

I don't really know...

Take a good trip with him somewhere far from coke-heads and party's. In this trip you'll get the time to explain your concern for him and his cocain abuse. He'll probably understand the seriousness of the situation and concider stopping with the coke.

Yes, indeed, Coke is a harsh mistress. There's some good advice here, and all I can add is that time is of the essence. It sounds like he's still in the 'experimental' stage now, but once Coke gets its hooks into him, it will be that much harder to kick the stuff. Best of luck, and keep us posted!

I've tried to think about this a little bit, as to what to say, as people starting down that road are notorious for not listening -- especially, young people -- so maybe try something like this...

Cocaine has a serious reputation and it is well deserved. It has ruined many lives. It has hurt far more people than it has helped. Its grip will sneak up on you, and by the time it gets you, you won't be thinking clearly anymore, so you won't even realize it or care. You are directly stimulating your brain's reward centers, and by doing this you will crave more, and life's normal pleasures will be diminished and disappear. Many people have serious problems with becoming addicted to powerful drugs like these, and maybe you won't be one of those, but you don't really know. So, ask yourself this: Do you really feel like playing russian roulette with your life, your health, and your future? Fucking up with this kind of drug can derail you in such a way, that it may take you many years to get your life back on track, which can basically screw up your entire future.

That's probably the kind of stuff I'd say, but I can also get away with saying stuff like that -- because I know, I've been there and back, and I've known a lot of people who went there and never came back, or came back damaged... :frown:

I dont think its your "job" to save him. Just look at what the Christians did in thier holy crusade to "save" people.

We all have different paths in life.

My bro did Coke for years and they quit on his own, now he lives a 'normal' life.

But see I think that the 'normal' american life is worse than doing coke all day so thats where we may be different.

He needs to want to save himself . Friends trying to get him to switch his vice will not teach him self control , nor make him a better person. Accept him for who he IS and if his drug of choice gets out of control, or you just wont tolerate in a friendship, try to help ,let him know how you think of cokers, but also know when to save yourself .
Coke is the original "Monkey on your back " addiction, very tough to learn how to say "enough is enough " .

thanks so much for all the advice :biggrin:. I still have some time to try and stop him while he's on drug testing for the next few months, but I gotta do something that will really help or the second after his last drug test his face will be in a pile of powder. :shake:

I think it's bullshit when people say you can't do ~anything~ -- because of course you can. You just can't do it for him and will need to know when it's just time to stand back.

You may not want to hear this but a drug is a drug. Being unable or unwilling to deal with reality sober is an age old dilemma for people.  I generally may agree that coke is going to have more likelihood for negative effects compared to weed, but that is sort of beside the point.

You trying to convince your friend of that may only push him away which is probably not what you want. Best thing to do is be supportive if/when he ends up with a bad addiction. Also don't be too confident that you won't develop a problem of your own, I have seen plenty of people with severe addiction to pot and (albeit less often) mushrooms as well.
It can be easy to focus on other people and their problems, it takes attention off of yourself. I'm not saying you are doing that, just be aware.
