Re: Where to start with Terrence Mckenna? [Re: OrgoneConclusion]

His writings on novelty and time are hugely insightful imo and have greatly influenced my own ideas and understanding of "change".

Ironically I only understood the whole novelty thing (timewave zero) about a month after the world was supposed to end. It was than, only after dec. 21 2012, that I began to think critically about everything i had read and realized i had somethings to say myself.

Check out my thread On Novelty..fully inspired by McKenna but also very different, all original thought. That thread is on observation on change or time and suprisingly simplifies wilst also encompassing quite a lot of things in process.
in my opinion (due to mckenna entertaining) the real importance of his
views on time and novelty was lost when he tried to chart it (and therefore end it).
everyone was so focused on the end including mckenna that the real information was sort of passed over and largely ignored..

luckily i see the importance having objective understanding of such matters and observed and wrote about them as objective as i could. What is a more objective observation of change but custom+novelty=evolution?

its actually kind of amazing to me how all my threads sort of come together as one solid logical step in atleast some direction, if not the "right" one out of many seemingly random topics i post..there emerged a connection i had previously never seen before...i PMed icelander of all people when it clicked for me while explaining/defending my position in the evolutionary dogma thread i started a little over a month ago. While proving my point the degree of dogma in scientific circles concerning evolution, i developed my own theory..and it encompasses the entire universe as well as Darwins observations.
that may sound egotistical, coming from some random online persona but hey..im a random online persona. (;

Honestly after listening to alot of his lectures and reading True Hallucinations and listening to the early interviews of Dennis McKenna on his book "Brotherhood Of the Screaming Abyss".  He ended up saying some things in those interviews that happened to be edited out of the book.
Basically he talked about at a certain point Terrance had a harrowing mushroom trip with his then wife.  At some point in the trip he started saying "Its all meaningless" (or something along those lines) over and over again.  Apparently after that (sometime in the mid 80's) he never ate mushrooms again.  He only drank oral DMT, and Smoked DMT occasionally.  Which to me is really just wrong if you think about how he went about declaring the 5 gram trip in darkness "essential to the human experience".  You can't go around saying that if you can't handle the trip yourself.
Anyway having heard those interviews with Dennis and then going back and reading and listening to those talks and books.  It really shows how he slowly started going farther away from anything I could personally identify with.
That being said I could listen to the man read a phonebook.

Mckenna was fucking brilliant. Just listen to his talk about why drugs are illegal or his 2 hour talk What Science Forgot. He wasn't just a fun entertainer the dude was obviously very smart.

Go to the library and pick up The Archaic Revival.  Best introduction to McKenna imo.  If the library doesn't have it (which is likely), fifteen bucks at amazon.

Good advice, but better yet, a used book:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0062506137/ref=sr_1_1_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1391314417&sr=8-1&keywords=archaic+revival&condition=used

McKenna modestly referred to his talks as entertainment, but yes he was a very smart and very wise man. I have been inspired by his talks because finally I've found someone who thinks like I do.
