Look at the meat on that puppy...
the ?ham has been fruiting well this week. I spent 2 hours foraging around the big city yesterday and came home empty handed.
Great find and photos.

Very Nice Baeocysistis Cardboard. Kudos to your friends discovery.
Next time tell him to remove the grass sli-pings while picking. makes them look =nicer and to put them either in a paper bag kept open and not moved around or in a cardboard box.

No Megaman 3, those are either P. strictipes or P. semilanceata (both are called liberty caps becasue of their similaroty and all thre are pasture shrooms. Baeos originate in Pasturelands where they are extrremely rare, as are P. stuntzii and p. fiemtarias. also from pastures.
Both of the laterr also grow well in lawns or in mulch.

Again, awesome pics cardboard! Gotta love them baeos I'd say those to the right in the second pic were Ps. strictipes, but I'm just guessing for fun, I'm far fro familar with the PNW Psilocybes.

I would love to be able to tell semilanceata and strictipes apart but i belive the difference is mainly microscopic. They were thought to be semilanceata but who knows. As for the baeos i guess this patch is fairly large and many pins were left to mature so i will get some pictures of them in their habitat, i would also like to do a bit of a series of pictures to demonstrate what happens to them as they dry. They are a very intense little mushroom. Doobie, i see no reason why you wouldnt have them down in portland area. Find an area with nurseries or office buildings that lies in a river delta. I think the picking for pasture mushrooms is really nice up here in northern washington because of all the river deltas that have been turned into pasture/farmland and then later down the road redeveloped into commercial areas. All the right nutrients are in the soil and once grass is planted atop the fertile soil the mushrooms have a prime breeding ground. Anyhow i will get some more pictures of these babies and it shouldnt be long now till the woodlovers start popping up =)

P. baeocystis are in portland. they were originaly identified and named in Eugene, oregon in the middle 1940s.
They grow between Roseburg to British Colombia. Use to be very rare then came in with much sod and woodchipps at different seasons of the year and then disappeared agian as the clear cuts become less and less and as the pasturelands disappear form the raineir valley from Tukwilla to kent.
Many do not ue thoe fertilizers from that region too much so the disappearing pastures keeps the shrooms from many new lawns. mj
But yes they are common in the Portland area, more likely in surburbs where there is more money for lawn service in public buildings and offices, restaurants condos etc.

those little ones are p. semilanceata. The baeos were discovered in the grass at the nursery I work at, and the semi's came from a field grazed upon by llamas 10 feet away. very nice baeos, bioassay reveals extreme enjoyment once again. Always such a treat to find the elusive baeocystis. I took the pics with cardboard's camera after putting them in the first available container I could find. I really think this year is going to be one to remember. hey cardboard, ever get in touch with 3d shroom about the old name switcheroo?

Is there a good chance that there is slightly decomposed wood underneath the grass?

maybe, but not likely. the wood chips are across the street, which is showing promise as a cyan patch. the baeos were very near the llama stable where straw and manure surely have been mixed in under the grass.
