Wait wut?

Most metals don't "burn" (eg magnesium) and the ones that do likely won't be in cans and even if they were your stove won't get them hot enough to do so.

Edit....  As a disclaimer, please be intelligent enough to not use a full can as the it could possibly explode...  (not sure if I had to add this, but then again...)

I'd say it's steel.  Mangnetic and not flammable.

Are you saying you are going to heat it up to melt holes in the sab? If so that will work fine but you'll need something like a small propane torch to heat it with. I use a small soup can to melt holes in my monotubs. Works every time. It is a little smokey so you have to do it outdoors. You can also just heat a knife and use that. The holes won't be as pretty though

You could probably use a burner on a stove.  I'd say it would be just fine.

I have used a stove and a 4.5" soup can.

That's not a bad idea...it'd be a bitch to clean all the plastic off though.

Saw a video where a guy used a coffee can, heated it up on the stove, and pressed it through the bin.  Was simply curious if the can I have is the same type of metal as a coffee can.

Thanks for all the negative remarks...having a less than pleasant experience on this snarky board.

Your going to have to grow a thicker skin if you plan on spending much time on the Internet...

Besides, you ask a silly question, and you get a silly response...  Nobody jumped down your throat or anything, but what kind of response did you seriously hope to get to your question?

I'm pretty sure he meant to heat the can not to melt the holes

I didn't know it was a silly question.  The video I watched said to be careful about flammable metals and I was just being careful.

Come on, you asked if a soup can was flammable. Why would we ship and store things in a metal that is flammable? Not only that, but if it's flammable then it would likely be an unstable metal, and by extension a somewhat rare/expensive metal and thus not put into cans. I'm not saying you're a stupid person by any means, but it was a stupid question. Still, it's better to ask a stupid question than not and end up doing something stupid, we all do it sometime, but in doing so you have to expect to be laughed at.

I know this is an endless cycle, but just to clarify: I was just being careful!  The video I saw said "make sure the metal isn't flammable."  I obviously didn't think this was an issue since I bought the can, but thought it better to check than not.

Good point.  However, if it were me, I probably would have researched before asking.  This is a good rule to live by on any question you have.  Not trying to flame you, I'm just sayin'.

Good Luck.

What video? And kudos for being cautious but.........yeah, it was pretty funny.

All forms of cans work, veggie cans, soup cans, tomato paste cans etc.
