Glass and metal
    #5733033 -

Ok I'm making a Homemade Magnetic Stirer for my LC's, if I place my base (where the jars will touch, glass to glass) as glass, will that mess with the magnetic strength at all? I wouldn't imagine so, just wanting to make sure.

Also, what's a good metal to make Homemade Stir Rods with? I've seen lots of post, but I'll design my own style; just need to know the metal composition.

Thanks ^ ^

No, the glass wont stop the magnetic fields.

Any metal would do, why would you need to know the metals composition, just curious, are you mixing your own metals?

Just dont use magnetic metal as your stirer because it would just be stuck to the bottom of the jar scraping along.

Thanks Ascension;

Well, I was thinking about metals that react well to magnetism,

ie: Iron, some steels and the mineral lodestone exhibit easily detectable magnetic properties*wikipedia:magnetism

-to improve the chances of this MagStir working effectively.

I use a small nail for mine and then put heat shrink on it to help on the rusting part and to quiet the clinking alittle. GL
