Irans nuclear program

How far away do the experts predict Iran is from Successfully creating a warhead? They're radical regime is notorious for having affiliations with terrorists across the globe. Irans leadership would love to whipe Israel off the map. In my opinion once Iran gets nukes so do the terrorists who wouldn't think twice about using one. At what point do we take military action to prevent this from happening?

Iran's nuclear program is overtly for peaceful purposes and in accord with the non-proliferation treaty (NPT).

And Israel's leadership would love to wipe Iran off of the map. Except there's one thing, Israel already has nuclear weapons and overtly ignores the NPT. Seems that Iran's desire for nuclear weapons stems from a willingness to be yet another nation that can defensively promise mutually assured destruction in the event of a nuclear war.

I have no ties or affiliations with Israel, so if they're allowed to have nuclear technology and not have it inspected, I'm all for Iran building and securing the technology in accordance to the NPT.

I think so too. I see no clear evidence that they would just want to give their weapons to 'terrorists' to mess around with. They're a strategic asset, not a practical tool. I think that's even (especially) true for Iran.

So which one is it? You can't have your cake and eat it. Is it a willingness to be able to defend themselves with nukes, or the latter you said for 'peaceful' energy. I'm not buying either..in a recent speech given by Iran's leadership he spoke of cleansing the world of infidels and a holy war that was inevitably coming. I don't think ANY country should have WMD, let alone such an unstable regime.

From Iran's perspective, I bet they would argue that no country should have WMD, let alone such an aggressive and immoral country as the United States.

Also, think of this: Ahmadinejad has argued multiple times that using WMD is not compatible with Islam. If he says that and he says that he wants to cleanse the world of infidels (which I'm not sure he literally said, but I certainly wouldn't put it past him), then clearly what he says is sort of problematic when viewed from a pragmatic viewpoint. It would imply that killing the infidels would involve doing it one by one. I doubt he intends to choose that route. So I interpret what he says as rhetoric that is intended to contribute to a power block that must balance that of Western sociopolitical and military forces.

Those guys are simply scared shitless that their cultural and religious heritage will be replaced by McDonalds restaurants and Texaco gas stations selling Playboy magazines. And to a large extent, you can't even blame them for it.

Koraks has it right. You seem to be missing the point of nuclear weapons. When only one side is allowed to have WMDs, neocolonialism has its way, and the dominant country gets its way economically--and therefore politically. Allowing countries to possess weapons part of a "balance of power". There would have been no Cold War if the Soviets had not developed nuclear technology, there would be only McWorld.

Like I said, I'm more concerned with the rogue nation of Israel having unregulated and undocumented nuclear weapons in the most tumultuous region of the world than I am with one country seeking to develop them in a highly regulated manner.
