Do you have a similar friend?
    #18609255 -

Hey all, for the past  two day and previous night, I was with a friend I've known since childhood.  My friend is blessed with a family and is financially well off.  This was not always the case with either of us.  He takes care of me when he can, repaying kindness and sharing his bud etc.  He is always mentioning giving me some of this or some of that ( not all things drug related lol.)  Even if I refuse he would question why etc.

Now that's the back-story of this tale. Basically while i was there he purchased a 10,000 dollar vehicle- an older but still very nice BMW.  He then was giving me a lift back to my place and I remembered that he mentioned giving me some lettuce and peppers from his garden, some weed, some books, and some xbox games. The thing is he mentioned all this. I mentioned before we went if i could get some lettuce and weed and he flipped out. Or was it my imagination?  Maybe I misinterpreted a failed joke?  He said, " what else do you need/want - to fuck my girlfriend?  I basically was quiet and i believe he later regretted his statement. I didn't get any games, or books, or the  cell phone he offered a week earlier, even though he got me this laptop.

From one perspective I might look like I'm striking it rich but I'm really not. He offers up stuff like this and this time when i asked he flipped out. this comment was the rudest thing I either heard and I'm just not sure where to take our 10 yr plus friendship from here. I honestly want to call him on his shit but if im over reacting i don't know. He is a liar ( basically cheated a cousin out of a pot growing venture that I was also going to be in).  He doesn't know I know any of the conversations or anything or at least he hasn't said anything.  He really pissed me off.  I hate people who say shit and don't deliver. Why tell me you got these things for me then flip out on me and say a comment like he did?

Any members have any similar stories or know how to approach this?  Should I dismiss it? Should I play it off like it didn't happen?

It was several days of fishing and hiking (1st day), smoking and watching the Big Lebowski (1st nite) and then eating popeyes chicken (he paid after offering) and going to the car dealership (2nd day).  I just don't get the behavior.  Don't offer if you cant deliver on your word.  Am I wrong?

Why don't you stop whining about not having everything fucking handed to you. Get a job, buy your own fucking lettuce and video games.

Jesus Christ.

Look my dude, I have worked years and I'm unemployed now only because as a combat veteran I don't wanna work at fast food.  I can't even get fast food cause they are not hiring. I live in a small town.

This friend invited me etc and then offered up these things for free. He then made the comment.

Sounds like you just want to troll. I'm not whining, I'm trying to save the friendship.  If it comes across like that - then that should illustrate the friendship

"Sounds like you just want to true"

You are right I'm answering truthfully.

Stop whining about not having shit handed to you. How is that trolling? Because you don't like it?

I'm not a dude either.

okay  dudette im looking for advice. quit whining is your perspective. Im trying to save a friendship if possible.  Wouldn't you be pissed if someone is giving you things that you didn't want or ask for in the first place- then are flipping out on you with that type of comment?  Just leave this post if that's all you can offer.

If you didn't want or ask for the items in the first place then you shouldn't be asking him for them later.

Peace out

he offered and I said okay.  Leave the thread you obviously don't understand. If someone offers you something then gets piss when you ask for it then obviously you would be pissed/suprised/ something over their behavior. You pass on free weed?  Yea sure...

Anyone have similar friends or know how to approach the situation? what to say of anything. What to do?  Just avoid and when he calls tell him the deal?

Here's how to approach the situation:  Stop asking for shit and expecting handouts, merely because your friend has been generous before.

Asking for more is EXACTLY why he's mad.  Imagine this:  You're a generous person and always provide for your friend.  Your friend is a parasite.  He always takes from you, never gives back and makes excuses about his lack of employment and funds.

Then, despite your generosity, one day, your friend says:  "Hey man, can you give me some more shit?  I mean, I know I take, take, and take from you, but I still want more."

Stop being a leech and your friendship will flourish.

I agree with 2. If he offers and gives it to you, that's fine. But you don't just ask for it.

I'm being honest, and this is how I treat this situation all the time when it comes up. Someone offers me something, cool. But if they forget or whatever, I don't bug them about it, UNLESS they say "remind me later to give you xxxx".

I didn't state it but the dude was offering the stuff to me for 2days and a night.  I don't always take. I paid for him in amsterdam.  He is constantly calling me to come up to chill with him.  He is doing well for himself and offered things he has abundance of and stuff he doesn't use anymore.

Just a little shocked to see the comments reversed towards an attack on me- stating im whining about not getting things. When I made it clear I'm trying to preserve a friendship rather than instantly getting violent.

I clearly said he offered in the story. obviously people did not read. things offered were offered for the total two days etc, even though i didn't mention length offered in the story.

i agree with you mostly. But the same friend has been doing this for a while. Always saying i got this for you and half the shit i blow off. when you interested in the stuff say like free weed or lettuce and veggies then you start to get a little pissed off when a comment like that is made.

I think what happened was he just dropped a lot of money on a car, which tends to stress people out.
But, 1. You should have taken that as a joke, it would have diffused the situation. 2. You shouldn't take peoples generous offers as a binding contract. You have no place to get angry over him 'not keeping his word'.  If he says "here, take this" great. If he forgets, hey it's the thought that counts. It's actually pretty impolite on your part to hassle him over free stuff.
The comments are against you because you come off as whiny, about a friend that gives you everything no less.

OK, I am going to give you the straight facts on it.

1. When someone offers and then gives you something, IT ALWAYS comes with strings attached, nothing is free, humans always want someone in return.

2. Once you accept something, you now OWE them, that's the fact.

3. Stop accepting from your friend, unless you got something to offer in return.

Bottom line, STOP accepting, simply refuse, there is not such thing as freely receiving "gifts", everyone keeps a mental accounting log, EVERYONE does.

You're the one not reading.

He can offer you stuff and you still ask for it later. You don't ask for it, ever. That was MY point. Even when he offers, you don't bring it up again unless they asked you to. It comes across as rude/greedy/needy/like you deserve it or whatever.. I'm not sure what to call it really, but it's definitely not a positive thing.

I've had a friend almost exactly like this although he didn't give me stuff all the time or promise me anything. Does this friend have a lot of other friends also? It sounds like he's trying to buy your friendship by giving or buying you things. I think you should just say, "Hey man, some things have been bugging me a bit lately and I think we should talk. Is that alright?" Then just see where it goes from there. Don't be really harsh or anything just say what you gotta say, and tell him you would like to stay friends (If you truly do) and ask about the mj grow operation if he doesn't mind. If he reacts negatively then well there's your answer.

My friend would whine and bitch when I took him snowboarding cause I wouldn't support his cigarette habit (shits expensive enough for me) and he would just flip shit when things didn't go his way. Then when I couldn't take it anymore almost to the point of beating him up, I told him to screw off and find other friends. Found out later he did have other new and much older friends that he was doing pills and a lot more worse stuff with. Then he tries to get me to be friends & said sorry blah blah blah, and that he got a MMJ card so he said he would buy medical weed and edibles if I wanted some. After about a month same shit happens again(knew at this point he wasn't a good friend) then told him to screw off again cause of his random bitch fits and trying to drop me off random places because he's mad about dumb shit. lately I saw him and he's so skinny like a bag of bones, no muscle or nothing. Drug addiction sucks.

At one point he was screaming in my face talking shit right in front of me and my friend. Reason: I went to his house to see if he wanted to match a bowl, and may have stumbled upon him doing hard drugs but couldn't tell what he was doing nor did I give a shit what he was doing. I had to walk away because it would have been real bad, was furiously angry cause I hate disrespect. Then he said he would call the cops if I fought him. haha

I agree with you and a few others .  I feel I will just refuse in the future. I come from a different world where a man or woman's word is taken at face value. I feel like that was my personal last straw and I'm not going to put myself in that type of situation. I didn't immediately get angry- only talked about it on here. I just no through my cousin that this dude changed.  Thanks for the advice good and bad folks.

shut the fuck up OP. your not a 'combat veteran'.

it is not hard to get a job, people are just fucking lazy and the Government is to easy to take advantage of. To say your a Combat Veteran in a 'Small Town' is like saying your a vagina in a town full of dicks.

Your a disgrace to the Uniform, and myself, and no one should believe a word you say because you are a liar. and you fucking know it.

Fuck Off.
