Exactly. I would say 99.9% of the world does not agree with nihilistic ideologies. Nearly everybody agrees that human life matters and that we should do our best to preserve it. Therefore, these so called "nihilists" are just lying to themselves.

There is a higher intelligence in the universe. It's not a deity, but it is a higher power. Call it consciousness, energy, the ineffable, the mysterious, etc. Whatever you choose to call it is what you choose to call it. Just realize that your label of it isn't what it truly is and though we don't know exactly what it is, we have to acknowledge its presence. It is the ultimate creator, sustainer and destroyer of worlds. Religion has tried to name this mysterious force, but we find that it has failed in doing so. Why? Because it is the nameless. However, if one can sift through the layers of religiosity and dogma, one will eventually get to the heart of all religious teachings, and one would find that all true religions ultimately point to the same thing: that nameless, eternal force that governs existence.

I saw TheAmazingAtheist (a YouTube sensation) on CNN a few months back. He said that atheism made up for about 5% of the U.S. population. He said that it's not necessarily that atheists don't believe in a higher power, they just don't believe in the god of religion. I chuckled as I thought, "Well, then you aren't truly atheist." Then a question popped into my head, "Are there really any true atheists out there?" and "Does nihilism necessarily follow atheism?" After much research and careful consideration I have found that any good atheist should also be a good nihilist. But nobody is truly nihilist, therefore nobody is truly atheist.

The god of religion is false. Everybody knows that. It's the same thing as Santa Claus or the tooth fairy, it isn't real. But that doesn't mean that there is not a higher power. That does not mean that there wasn't a first cause (something that science cannot measure). And I think that most "atheists" agree with that statement. After all, how could you not agree with that statement? Isn't it known that science can only measure the effects, but not the root cause?

So my assertion is that there are actually no true nihilists/atheists in the world. We have changed the meaning of these labels to mean "someone who doesn't follow religion". I believe that would be called irreligious. So what then? Am I just arguing semantics? Have I wasted my breath on mere labels? Maybe so. All I ask is that people stop deluding other people. Like Repertoire89 said, "Why would a 'true' nihilist bother asking a question or moving?" Exactly. Why would they? Yet we find that everyone asks questions and moves. Everybody cares about human life to some extent because everybody knows that life is meaningful. Therefore this philosophy has failed.

Irreligion does not necessitate atheism. Just because I don't follow religion does not mean that I don't believe in something greater than myself. In fact science confirms that there is something greater. Once we acknowledge this, then we begin to move from pride to humility because we realize that this ultimate reality is a fountain of love. And isn't love the answer? I think deep down we all know that it is, some of us just choose to acknowledge it more than others.

I'm open to any objections.

Much love ,

In fact science confirms that there is something greater

how so?

also, there are a lot of different types of nihilism. these include Metaphysical, Epistemological, Mereological, Existential, Political and Moral nihilism.

existential nihilism meshes quite well with my own beliefs and imo is not an unreasonable position.

"Existential nihilism is the belief that life has no intrinsic meaning or value. With respect to the universe, existential nihilism posits that a single human or even the entire human species is insignificant, without purpose and unlikely to change in the totality of existence" - wiki

however, Epistemological and Political nihilism i find pretty rediculous.

imo you are tarring everyone with the same brush.
