    #17812723 -

It's not BS if you have a condition that causes low B-12 levels.

b-12 is a good vitamin to take if I have things to do. Helps to focus, gives you energy, basically just makes your body feel better.

People with low B-12 levels are pretty lethargic and could sleep almost all day so it definitely gives you some energy.

You need to supplement if you're a vegan too.

Interesting info on the different forms of B12 I've gathered. Apparantly cyanocobalamin, the most popular form, is not good.

it has been suggested repeatedly by several researchers, starting with Dr. AG Freeman in 1970, that cyanocobalamin should be removed from the market.

Yeah, about supplementing vitamin b12. A famous researcher on the cfs website prefers people to take hydroxocobalamin so that their bodies can dictate how much needs to be converted to adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin. That might just be a safer approach. Or supporting with adenosylcobalamin will allow your body to convert the amount of methylcobalamin needed and not overramp the methylation cycle. Rich and Fredd are both two extremely educated men that have different views on the methylation cycle and their protocols are different when it co0mes to supporting it. They talk about it on the cfs website. Also wrong diagnosis has a long thread on b12 as well. Forgot to mention that.

Any idea what episode that was from?  Seemed like it might be a stand alone thing, though.  I am almost positive I've seen every American Dad to date and never heard that before.

In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion.

Did you just ask if a vitamin necessary for human life was bullcrap?

Quote:
Vitamin B12, vitamin B12 or vitamin B-12, also called cobalamin, is a water-soluble vitamin with a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and nervous system, and for the formation of blood. It is one of the eight B vitamins. It is normally involved in the metabolism of every cell of the human body, especially affecting DNA synthesis and regulation, but also fatty acid synthesis and energy production. Neither fungi, plants nor animals are capable of producing vitamin B12. Only bacteria and archaea have the enzymes required for its synthesis, although many foods are a natural source of B12 because of bacterial symbiosis. The vitamin is the largest and most structurally complicated vitamin and can be produced industrially only through bacterial fermentation-synthesis..

Yes, there are effects. And your body does not produce it so you need to get it from food.
And many people are deficient in this vitamin.

I think he's asking if there are any acute effects, as it's being included in energy drinks (in the cyanocobalamin form, which as I pointed out may be poorly absorbed.)

B vitamins are a good choice for most people to take. I personally would recomend a b complex instead of just b-12. B vitamins are indeed particularly important for alcoholics and drug users especially users of alcohol and nitrous, not sure why but using those drugs depletes the b vitamins in the brain and body with potentially serious consequences.
