you guys act like being a moderator on the forums is so easy, so stress free. please stop making assumptions about the type of job we have to do as well as making broad generalizations about all of us. i don't claim to know what your life is like, so please don't make assumptions about mine.


I'm personally not making any broad generalizations or saying anything negative about he forum mods (I apologize if I'm coming off that way,  I'm frustrated so I'm sure my language isn't conveying my actual meaning that well). Rather, I personally am trying to suggest that if the job is so stressful that a few more complaints leads to deletion of a largely enjoyed aspect of the site, maybe we need more mods or admins, you know? :shrug:

Every ban is supposed to be logged, and as far as I had seen that was upheld.

TDR, a former chat mod, just said he could not provide evidence for bans because the chat disconnected.


while i was in the chat, chat mods told me they had EVERYTHING logged.

No, I'm admitting that I would have not put up with any bullshit at all, from anyone.

Of course there's going to be favoritism. It's just human nature. You like some people more than others.

The difference, IMO, was that some people made the whole room laugh with their trolling while some people only made themselves laugh. Not saying you personally, k00laid (I actually can't even recall a time when we chatted together) but it goes for a lot of users.

I think it should be gone honestly.

I did enjoy going in their time to time. But what did I go in for? The drama. I just sat back and watched the drama. It always happened. Always. Bye-Bye chat.

It was fun at first, but not many people were in their. I almost made Chat mod, with a few conversations to Gretchen, but I didn't fill in the standards, because it started going to shit, and I didn't want that responsibility.

If Ythan, and other admins, don't want to deal with it, why should it live? Honestly.
Did you know that Romney admitted he didn't even want to be president of the United States? Could you imagine how the country would look having someone who didn't want to run it? Same thing, smaller scale. A bunch of people, not wanting to do anything.
Mods banning for small shit.

Serious topics being brought up, and people getting torn down.

That one guy that Ythan quoted about his friend dying, and getting flamed/ and then banned. That wasn't the only time that happened guys. I was in their and saw the pure hate, and disregard. On that alone, it should have went.

I'll add to the Mods/Admins too...

Create your own private chat. Get on to AIM again, like you did in highschool, add a bunch of your shroomerite pals, get into a group chat, and you can all chat with each other. Add whomever you want, and don't add who you don't want. Win win. <-- and free.

Everybody's saying that chat's easy to moderate and you can run it without any problems. Awesome! Go do it! You don't need our blessing to create a chat room for Shroomerites. We just don't want anything to do with it. But that means you can run it however you want!

We simply don't have enough experienced and trusted staff members to adequately moderate chat. Like I said in this post:

Its true all chat infractions were logged. To make sure we all knew what was happening when we were not in the room ourselves. We never his the facts we recorded them.

Id also have to agree again with joiedevivre they should have at least documented these complaints in our visible view to be delt with not hidden from us. We were the people apparently the ones to watch over things but not have the information to do so? How's that fair? At least we had everything documented and accounted for to prove why we were doing what we were doing. Yes some mods held a bias on certain members but don't we all have bad days? In retrospect after so many infractions on a certain one individual does that not give means to scrutinize. I would say so you can only do something so many times without being noticed.

Second, those don't contradict each other. The mods keep logs of what they can. Sometimes the chat fucks up and they miss some stuff.

i think you're misunderstanding the stress that IRC caused the site, and chat was heading in the same direction. we would rather nip it in the bud than have to deal with pissed off members coming here and attacking the site itself. it isn't about having to deal with a few actual complaints, it's about not having the foundation laid before the structure was built; it was bound to come crashing down at some point.


as far as more mods and admins go (despite Andy, whom i love, adding a bunch without asking the rest of the staff), the process is involved, even just to become an moderator. to be an administrator... don't even get me started. but i really think that those of you who were chat ops should stop making assumptions about a moderator's duties. it isn't our responsibility to have to oversee your actions in chat, you should have been using better judgement (not you in particular, but i know this applies to some of the ops) and less bias. the appointment of chat ops should have been done more like the appointment of mods. the entire implementation and execution of chat was just wrong. i'm sorry that that means some of you lose a feature you loved, but that's the way life is most of the time.

Am I the only one who missed the shit shows of drama that apparently went on in chat? I recall very few instances of negativity, usually when someone was trolling or when there was a genuine misunderstanding just like on the forums and they were usually resolved pretty quickly.

If I wanted to create my own chat I would have already done so. What I loved about the shroomery chat was that everyone on the site was able to come in at any time, leading to a decent variety of chatters, topics and a TON of intelligent discussion. I've had some great discussions on chat even moreso than on the forums and I've never experienced any horrendous drama or anything I took to be especially hateful.

Also it seems like people are equating problems that were on IRC with the chatterbox. I was under the assumption the two were very different chat clients and I did not see any of the IRC specific problems popping up in chat.



The chat was going in the same direction as IRC so instead of fixing the issues we just delete the whole thing? I don't see why this isn't open to discussion. Why does it have to be an all or nothing thing? Obviously chat is a feature loved by shroomerites which is why it keeps popping up in various incarnations.

everyone that really used the chat was done with this forum because of the retarded pointless posts-- like the "who's racist thread" or people talking about it being ok to sex underage children... just the millions of pointless threads that flood the site... it was my only escape from the real "drama"

i got a 7 day ban "for not respecting chat mods"

when the reality of the situation is, whoever logged into chatterbox admitted that i had made no infractions that night. but that i was being banned for past infractions?!?!?


that makes no fucking sense.

but i bet that line wasnt posted in your guys' logs.

I fully agree that that makes no sense. However, I think that was a problem with the mods in question, not the actual chat client. On the part of all chat ops, I apologize for unfair treatment. Unfortunately now all the logs are gone because the entire chatterbox staff forum was deleted.

I fully agree that that makes no sense. However, I think that was a problem with the mods in question, not the actual chat client.



the unfortunate reality is, ythan doesnt have any competent mods willing to moderate the chat.
