Yeah there's that. I've heard some people argue that recycling uses more energy then it saves.. which is dumb. Apathy/"whogivesafuck" is another one. Some people think there isn't a problem to begin with.

What if one day we don't even have an ocean, of water well on top anyways. All our continents will be divided by a mass of garbage with an underground body of water hiding  miles underneath. How crazy would that be. We could literally walk across the continents over a never ending terrain of garbage. A never ending landfill with mountain ranges made of garbage. Hobos of all races would move out there creating shack towns as some sort of crack head refuge where they would live off the land by finding small sockets of water the size of lakes to build there shack villages around and the water would be filtered to drink and use garbage as a way build there shelter. Nomad families would  travel the environment raiding the villages they came across.. Fugitives and the like would move out there where they could hide from authority. It would become a world with no social class no laws and no money. Thrown out inhalents like glue and gasoline would be used to huff and run rampant. Battles would be waged over resources between neighboring hobo villages.  It would be... a hobo paradise.

:omgz:

I'm gonna make a movie.

KINDA scary!  KINDA!!!!!!! are you fucking insane!

Understatement of the century.

this is the furthest I've read into this thread at the time of this post.  How is this scary, or even alarming?  How does it really even matter? Sure we've put a lot of nasty shit out there, but to be so sure of ourselves?  Suddenly we're going to make it while our planet suffers?  Give me a break.  Earth ain't scared.

Don't misunderstand, we should definitely stop littering and all that, just as soon as we figure out what to do with all of this plastic :cookiemonster:

It's not scary for the earth, no.
It's scary for the marine life whose home is these polluted, toxic waters. Then it would lead to being scary for the humans whose livelihoods depend on marine life, eventually scary for people who ever want to consume anything that comes from the ocean.
It's not just like landfills, it's worse.:uhoh:

Seems like a good development.  Provided the trash has to go somewhere, better for it to be in one place in the middle of nowhere

I wonder if they can't develop some microb that could live off that shit?  Would seem to be an ideal location, warm oxygenated water.

Maybe we could melt the plastic into a giant island with lasers and transplant soil onto it to make an artificial island?

Re: Great Pacific Garbage Patch [Re: thoughts]

I have developed a theory about that and why our weather and environments are getting all twisted out of shape. Picture the world as a giant CPU, generating heat and all the oceans, rivers and lakes are one giant liquid cooler, like you can buy for CPUs. Now what if the liquid intake were to get clogged up, say with a mass of plastic twice the size of Texas. Things would start backing up, heat would start to build up and things start to melt. There is a reason that all of it is gathering in one place. They say it is the currents, but what if the currents are a result of a giant slow moving whirlpool that sucks water into the earth to be moved around, heated up and expelled again somewhere else. There is so much we still do not know about the ocean currents and it's role in affecting our climate. Being a giant core cooler may not be too far off.
