U.S. Missle Shield goes active, North Korea prepares for test missle launch

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060620/ap_on_re_as/nkorea_missile_test - north korea redies for test. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060620/us_nm/arms_usa_missile_dc_2 --- us activates missle shield.
so here is the deal for those of you that dont want to read the links. North korea, who is working tirelessly on getting nukes (and probably allready has them) is currently fueling a new missle for a test. this missle (tapedong-2) is supposedly able to reach as far as the western united states.
In response to this we have actually activated out missle shield (that dosent work all that well)
North korea's first launch window is later in the day on wednesday and it is very probable that they will be launching this missile in the near future. Currently sattellite info has about 40 fueling trucks on site, and about 1000 troops on the ground (north korean) gurading this site.
Back in i believe 97 or so, north korea riggered an international incident by test firing a missile over Japan without warning.
The united states has vowed that any such action would be a provocitave act, and has located 2 aegis cruisers off of the coast of north korea, capable of shooting any test missile out of the sky. there are also interceptors located elsewhere in the pacific as well as the west coast...
" U.S. intelligence officials said there are signs that the North Koreans recently began fueling the Taepodong with highly corrosive rocket fuel. Normally, when liquid fuel is loaded into missiles the missile must be fired within five to 10 days, or it must be de-fueled and the motors cleaned, a difficult and hazardous process"
so in the next week were going to see some interesting shit.

My prediction: nothing bad at all will come from this one test (other than NK being that much closer to a working ICBM).
No one is going to panick too hard when NK fires a missile that they told everyone about in the first place. Not like it's going to be a surprise or anything

still it will be a limited exchange, you know that the us has those 2 aegis crusiers out there specifically to shoot down any test missile...
and that whole corrosive fuel thing, means that it will be happening very soon

We should have used nukes in Nam. The problem is that all the people who were young officers in WW2 became generals in the nam era and didnt have the balls to do what needed to be done. This was because the power of the two nuclear weapons we dropped in Japan scared the shit out of them.
If the Koreans knew they could expect a nuclear strike from the USA they would have abandoned their program when we first warned them. I highly doubt if we did nuke Korea that china would nuke the United States. China is an ally of Korea but china does not want to be vaporised.
The way to win a war is not to show the enemy that we will invade and occupy their land but to show them that they will surrender or be eradicated. Our generals need to understand the higher risk reward aspect rather than wasting american troops lives at a lower risk and not accomplishing anything.
Dont get me wrong Im all for peace. But you cant deny that there are many dangerous, hostile countries and ignoring them will not make them go away. In fact the world would be in a much better place if we had dealt with russia the way they needed to be dealt with in the early stages (before they tested a bomb). The entire cold war may have been avoided and basically communism could have been squashed.
You can whine about the civillian causualties aspect all you want but the truth is if you want to take the cookies blood has to be spilled and in all truth better them than US.
In a nutshell Im sick of the USA fucking around with all these pussies, DO OR DO NOT THERE IS NO TRY.

Oh really and why should we of nuked NAM? I didnt recall any vietnamese launching attacks on the US? This was during the cold war, it could of led to a massive nuclear war, your not supposed to just casually nuke people in a war.

That's an effective approach, nuke em before they spread, but it's too absolute. Noone can be trusted with that kind of power.

North Vietnam took over a peaceful country. They helped to sread a communism (which doesnt work). If we had nuked Nam it is highly unlikely a nuclear war would have ensued. Remember the soviets were just as scared as us. They dont want to die. Unless we nuked them directly they most likely wouldnt have done shit. Like I said its all risk reward. People who take the largest risks run the world. Our conventional methods did not work in Nam (and arent working today). Japan proves that nukes can be used effectively.

Not to mention the unpredictable environmental impact upon our ecosystems - our source of life! Nuke's should be a last resort.. and for that matter so should any physical force!

The USA has tested over 40 nuclear weapons on Bikini Atoll. They arent that detrimental to the environment. Dont get me wrong they are bad but not as bad as cold war propaganda has made everyone believe. The Bikini Atoll is doing pretty well actually. People live in hiroshima and Nagasaki. It takes time for things to recover but its not forever. Using nukes does not neccesarily mean everyone dies.

Over 40? That's all?
You need to do some reading about nuclear weapons before you talk about them as if you did read about them
The US alone performed over 1000 nuclear tests, about 300 of them were above-ground "atmospheric" tests: http://nuclearweaponarchive.org/
The reason only 300 of them were done above-ground is that after 300 they had learned just how dangerous the nuclear material that is released from a nuke is. Global radiation levels rose during the years of above-ground nuke tests. Probably the most significant (from a human-fatality standpoint) by-product of nuke tests is Strontium-90 which is readily taken into the food-chain because of its similarities to Calcium. Once it's in the food chain, it can easily work its way up to humans - where it causes childhood leukemia and other cancers.
That's just one of the many risks involved with atmospheric nuclear explosions.

I meant 40 on Bikini island sorry. Atmospheric tests are done in the atmosphere and are different from exploding a bomb above ground. It is you who needs to read up. Of course if you detonate a nuclear weapon way up in the atmosphere its going to spread shit all around.
