Subjective delusion
    #17774114 -

When I die, the universe will remain and continue its course. That makes reality objective, it exists with or without me.

All the various opinions in life do not prove subjectivity, they prove objectivity. If 5 people take a guess at the identity of an object in a box none can see, their differing answers does not mean they're all right - it means any answer differing from the correct answer is wrong. No matter your opinions, reality persists.

If we look for a wave we see a wave, if we look for a particle we see a particle, if you cut off your hand it won't grow back however you look at it.

Another example: you have two mushrooms - a shittake and a cube, taking the shittake thinking it to be the cube will not produce a trip.

Someone looks at this picture and thinks she has four arms, in their head she has 4 arms. In reality she has 2.

As far as you know, which isn't that far.

If they are all a creation of your mind then their dying is meaningless.  You'll never likely know for sure. :haha:

I think it is a wild grasping at examples of sanity that are unrelated to real life

real life is seldom so in control, that you might have enough perspective to face each issue as if it complies with some model or favorite set of rules.

expecting that compliance is deluded.

I've considered that idea, but all the evidence at hand indicates my inevitable doom. Have had a few bad fevers which brought me to the brink, something like they say about war - you never think it could be you in the stretcher until it is.

One minute I'm in the ambulance, and the next thing I knew it was tomorrow and there were tubes up my nose

Not sure exactly what your post refers to, it could readily be applied to any perspective including the perspective from which it was formed

It's not that I don't share your belief. It's just that I don't hold anything as an absolute surety.  This existence is just too strange for that.

Precisely! What can anyone be sure of? This "reality" could be an illusion. That doesn't mean it isn't real, it just means it's illusory. We only perceive three dimensions; there could be a lot more at work, beyond our comprehension. I don't pretend to know what that something more is, but I sure like searching for it. It's fun and it makes life exciting. Maybe we really are just the body and our life is meaningless, but at least I can do some things to MAKE it meaningful. Rational thinking is not saying that you're sure of something; it's admitting that you're not sure of anything.

Oh I do agree.  It's so nice to hear this balanced honest perspective here. Honestly, it's like a breath of fresh air in Beijing.

I hear that a lot, but you wouldn't get far in any trade if you refused to learn

You can learn things in this world, yes. But my point is that nobody knows for sure what the truth is beyond this world. We can only use our five senses to judge. But, some things transcend what we can perceive. These things can't be known. You can neither accept nor reject their existence.

Well in regards to the thread topic, whenever I've seen someone or something die the world at large doesn't change. Whatever happens with them is irrelevant to the world.

The sole context of that example is in the constant nature of life apart from individual perception, the way multiple people can have an opinion which is demonstratably inaccurate. What does or doesn't happen at death is something for another topic, and outside of a vague benefit of a doubt one may choose to give on the "possibility" of death ~ that example demonstrates the subjective fallacy.

I'm just open to all possibilities. I could be wrong. At least, I admit that. But, it seems that you all are having trouble admitting that. Kind of arrogant, no?
