didn't have time to read the whole thread so sorry if someone said this.your sub at field capacity would put any lost moisture back into your grains while colonizing, and you wouldn't have to rinse a bunch of mycelium down the drain. but hey, if your results are great it's hard to argue with what works. thanks for sharing.

Exactly, so the plan is to add more moisture, so the grains do not take any away from the bulk substrate, which already has the perfect moisture content.

ya,makes sense. i won't bash anything until i try it. next projects will be an isolate, i'll try 1 project with, 1 without. then i'll offer an opinion.

IME:
it adds about an eighth to a quarter of a quart of water, more or less, per dunked jar. that is water reabsorbed into the grains themselves. an extra 1 to 2 quarts of water added to the tub (without affecting the moisture content of the substrate) makes a HUGE difference in yield :thumbup:
Ill get exact measurements on a few jars tomorrow.
i imagine the myc sucks a lot of water from the grains while colonizing the jar. its the same way an agar wedge is completely dry when you go to spawn the jar it is in. the grains lose moisture, so replacing it makes sense.

only way to find out is to try :wink:

if you're worried about dumping myc down the drain, collect all the water you pour off and use it to hydrate your sub.

i don't think i'd go that far. we work so hard to have perfect grains it's already hard enough to break them up, expose them to air, then dump tap water over them exposed for ten minutes. but i'm a man who doesn't argue with results. so try it, i will!!

once fully colonized you dont need to worry about exposure to contams.  i promise :thumbup:
people fruit right off colonized grain and case it with dirty verm and it survives, right? we spawn in open air and it doesnt get dirtier than that.
dont run water over them for ten minutes, just fill, soak, and drain.

If citric is reading or anyone knows where the original thread of this idea is located at, Im wondering why only 10 minutes? wouldn't 20 minutes or an hour allow even more water to be absorbed? 5-10 minutes seems like such a short period of time if the goal is rehydrating the grain.

i am a verrrrrry clean worker. whick is kind of funny cause i birth my whole projects into a GH lol. my test should be interesting because of that. the whole project is exposed and losing moisture immeadiately so if this was gonna work great for anyone i'd think my style should show results. i love experimenting with new ideas :smile:. thanks for making me think frank, now let's see how it works for blocks!!
