MAIA's current sig

It is only those who do nothing who make no mistakes.
-Peter Kropotkin

I disagree.
Sometimes doing nothing is a mistake.

I prefer the age-old mantra of "everyone makes mistakes".

I agree with you Sclorch but i think they are two different things. The meaning of the phrase has an action/consequence intention, it's not entropic or it does not try to be explained by the absense of action.
Read Anarchism: Its Philosophy and Ideals to get the whole picture.

Quote:
We need not fear the dangers and "abuses" of liberty. It is only those who do nothing who make no mistakes. As to those who only know how to obey, they make just as many, and more mistakes than those who strike out their own path in trying to act in the direction their intelligence and their social education suggest to them. The ideal of liberty of the individual--if it is incorrectly understood owing to surroundings where the notion of solidarity is insufficiently accentuated by institutions--can certainly lead isolated men to acts that are repugnant to the social sentiments of humanity. Let us admit that it does happen: is it, however, a reason for throwing the principle of liberty overboard? Is it a reason for accepting the teaching of those masters who, in order to prevent "digressions," re-establish the censure of an enfranchised press and guillotine advanced parties to maintain uniformity and discipline-that which, when all is said, was in 1793 the best means of insuring the triumph of reaction?

The only thing to be done when we see anti-social acts committed in the name of liberty of the individual, is to repudiate the principle of "each for himself and God for all," and to have the courage to say aloud in anyone's presence what we think of such acts. This can perhaps bring about a conflict; but conflict is life itself. And from the conflict will arise an appreciation of those acts far more just than all those appreciations which could have been produced under the influence of old-established ideas.

It is evident that so profound a revolution producing itself in people's minds cannot be confined to the domain of ideas without expanding to the sphere of action.

This was written in the 19th century, the interesting thing is that it still apllies, even their sense of individuality.

Okay... in that context it sounds much better.
