greenhouse ideas..
    #17070710 -

i first set up my 4-tier portable green house and within 2 weeks it was rusted.

then i used a pvc frame and wrapped in green house plastic with a plastic 5 tier plastic sterilite shelf.
this was a hassle too.

if any of you any bad ass home made greenhouse that you'd like to share i would appreciate it as i'm trying to build a new that is more efficient than the first two. thanks!

I have had my NEPTUNE 4 Teir mini greenhouse for about a month and i see no rust, I actually built it up a little with copper pipe.

1/2" copper tubing and some fittings makes for a great GH frame by iteslf....but if u have a similar GH, you can substitue the green pipes they send for 1/2" copper, and there will be no rust. Not to mention u will have transformed a greenhouse into a copperhouse, lol.

The first link in my signature is my GH, check it out.

here's the one i'm working on. I think its a pretty simple design. It's my 1st.

Enameled rack, kmart, 40 bucks, and its pretty solid.

I'll let it rust till i think it's causing a problem.

i don't think rust will have any impact on subs in a container, or with a big rusty nail right in the middle. sounds like a good experiment to do actually.

i once used a zipperd closet..

http://images.holdnstorage.com/images/4058KIKI.jpg

and plastic shelfs.... stuck it in a big rubbermaid container to hold the run off water and put an aquarium heater in the bottom to heat the water up .. and vented fresh air into the container using a dryer hose.... worked ok lol but i used trays that held all the drip water from the upper shelf :frown:

I'm looking for something with a larger design than a premade portable.

Something around the size of 3x5. The same company that makes the 4 tier ones make lager ones that use the same shelving for support, I thought of buying just the premade/pre shaped tent part and building my own frame for it and using my own plastic shelves to reduce rusting, but the problem is that the top is T shaped so when it says its 76" high that's referring to the tip. But it's useable height is there the side wall meets the slope of the top and that's only 48-53" tall, which isn't tall enough,

Hopefully someone can chime in who has built and/or bought one for the size requirements I need.
Thanks in advanced

Have you seen this one? Decent price too. A fogger & fan should have no trouble humidifying that especially while using a Hygrotherm.

I would mostly be concerned about how to waterproof the floor. I don't know of any huge drip pans that are that big. I would find it hard to trust sheet plastic vapor barrier because I've seen that stuff fail in person.

2x4s are cheap. You could easily construct a frame of any shape. Transparent sheet plastic vapor barrier is also relatively inexpensive.

Simply go to the local hardware store and buy a bunch of 1" PVC pipe, some glue and fittings.  Get a hacksaw if you need one.  Measure the exact space you have available and custom cut the PVC into a frame, which you will simply wrap plastic sheeting around loosely like a tent.

I'm currently making a pvc greenhouse as well. I did not glue the pvc because the fittings are tight enough on their own.

I like using pvc cutters. saws leave more of a mess to clean up, but i live in an apartment.

I found my drip pan at a tack and feed store. Check your local farm supply, pet store, or anywhere they sell large animal pens and cages. Mine is intended for a big dog cage, they had some bigger ones.

Here's the frame with a rack in it and a close up on how i did the corners.

Hope this helps

An idea of what I've done in the past..
Wrap the sides with plastic and filled the bottom 1/3 full..
Dryer hose the fresh air in the bottom tub and vents out top.
Use the bottom feet to hold top on.
Led for lighting..
Used Velcro for the door.
Bulge pump to circulate water.
Aquarium heater for temp if needed.

Basically building shelves inside a humidifier

no maintenance no cleanup.

and wheels are a plus

Did you have any problems with mold or mildew? Was the water just circulating around in the tub? How often did you have to replace the water and wash out the tub?

I only ask because I think most people consider a tub of warm water a bacteria factory.

This is what I was thinking but I couldn't find a supplier with a wide enough plastic, then I would have to double up and there'd be a gap. I know duct tape would be fine but I don't like any of my stuff to be ghetto. As for drip pans that doesn't matter I have uimited access to sheet metal to make one as large as I need and I have a 55 gallon bulk humidifier so getting it FAE and RH are no problem.

this is one big piece folded once and then on a roll. Seems tough enough and crystal clear.

I wonder if that would shrink and stick to PVC, if so that's badass!

I thought about shrinking it, but I just left well enough alone. It's really light weight, does not take so much taping. I started on 1 corner and wrapped all the way around to where i started, and taped the overlapping seam.
