Increase The Capacity Of Your Greenhouse

I have been using 4 tier mini greenhouses for quite a while and my only complaint is the amount of wasted space in each greenhouse. The shelves are spaced far apart. Buying multiple greenhouses in order to expand can take up more space (larger footprint).

What I like about the 4 tier mini greenhouses is that they are modular. They are made of just rods of the same length and plastic pieces (that are all identical). I increased the capacity of each of my greenhouses by 50% without adding height to the overall structure. Instead of 4 tiers … I want 6. It may not seem like much of an improvement, but 2 modified greenhouses would be capable of the same capacity as 3 unmodified without the expense of an additional humidification system and additional space that would otherwise be required.

Your Typical 4 Tier Mini Greenhouse:




Here’s The Plan:





I cut all the vertical tubes of both my existing greenhouse and a new greenhouse to the length of 8-7/16" in order to reassemble it with 6 tiers without increasing the height of the overall structure. Feel free to measure your greenhouses and do the math. I noticed a very small loss in height ... less than 1".

Harbor Freight stores have tubing cutters for like $3.99 if you don’t already own one.



I found that holding a tube that has already been cut against an uncut tube makes it MUCH quicker to cut all the tubes. You just slide the tubing cutter down the tube until the blade hits the cut tube (which is used as your jig).


Once all the tubes are cut begin assembling the greenhouses with 6 tiers each.

DONE ! ! !





I ended up losing less than 1" of the original height of the structure when it was all said & done. I don't know if it was my math that fell short or my cutting skills  Keep in mind that you can always replace the tubes using copper tubing from a local hardware store.

If you currently own 1 Mini Greenhouse then you would have to buy another in order to increase your existing greenhouse capacity by 50%. You will also have spare parts in order to modify a 2nd greenhouse any time in the future. If you happen to be using 2 mini greenhouses right now then the purchase of one additional greenhouse you can increase the capacity of BOTH by 50% ! ! !

ROGERRABBIT: P cubensis will grow on stuffed animals, bibles, quarter pounds of weed, bras, etc.
In other words,it's hard to fuck up a cube grow.

Thanks! If you liked that bulk pasteurizer just wait ... I just put together a huge one that is 100% fully automated, will reliably pasteurize straw, 220V 5500w and can even shut itself down automatically when finished! I just gave it a test run tonight and it worked perfectly. A couple finishing touches and I'll be posting the tek.

I took a similar approach to my incubating closet. I use Cheap plastic shelving units that you can buy at any Mart store for $14 and cut the posts to the height of a quart jar three 4 shelf units are now a whole lot of incubating space. Thanks for the idea of using it on a greenhouse though. The thought never crossed my mind.

I have the same exact GH, except I removed a tier in order to fit it in my closet.



I think I'll use this tek to reinstall that removed tier and return it to it's operating capacity!  Thanks yo!

I'm glad you guys dig it. It works and you can chop it down to any dimensions you need! You could always return a greenhouse back to its original design by either buying & cutting copper tubing or buying another greenhouse for $15-$25 on eBay. They get pretty darn cheap during the off season.

I'm about to start a Pan Cyan greenhouse and I am hoping this will work out so I can have as many grows as possible thanks for the idea. I don't know what I would do without this site.

Nice job. I decided to run a Martha and a gh for monos. That's how I'm increasing my capacity. Once my pans are ready I'll move the cubes and set the Martha for pans. Mine is a new version though the shelves are a little wider and deeper. My last one is the one you have. The big gh is also a new version, Amazon sent me both versions on accident.
