Re: What gives with the "Big Bird Controversy" bullshit? [Re: Gilgamesh18]

I'm not saying capitolism is inherently wrong. You are absolutely right that it has brought us many great things. I have mixed thoughts honestly on the whole corporation issue. Honestly, corporations are generally better equipped to offer reasonable benefits and things like that compared to small businesses who often don't.

I'm just saying that they need to be regulated is all. We can't just hand the world over to the super wealthy owners of a few corporations and expect that they are going to respect our nature and people. That's what I'm trying to say.

Capitalism does however sometimes foster the worst in human nature namely greed. Which can equate into the subjugation of individual persons and or their culture and natural resources. I'm not saying in all cases but it certainly has happened and is happening as we speak.

I gotcha and corporations are regulated by the government and consumers do you think the BP oil spill was good for that companies bottom line hell no. There stock lost nearly half its value and it still hasn't recovered. So I would argue that unethical business practices are not sustainable and it is in a corporations best interest to be ethical.

I'm sorry, but that's an absurd argument IMO.

No, what brought us many great things were two things in particular:
A. Cheap energy
B. Technology

Capitalism is obsolete.  It is actually hampering our world more than it is helping it.  I know I'm not gonna make many friends saying so but it's the truth.

I agree. I'm not in favor of centralization (which is what people immediately think of when you bring up communism), but governments need to take a strong role in education and finance or the world is going to go to shit.

To you who claims the government is capable of no good, I disagree, and ask you to stop sabotaging my fucking government.

I didn't mean to bring up communism.
I don't know what the solution is honestly.  Centralization, if used in line with human needs and wants, could be very effective.  On the other hand it could be quite destructive.
I'm only saying that our current system is fucked.  For so many reasons they're virtually inexhaustible.

In this country, trying to advance the role of government in citizens' lives will get you labeled a communist. The right-wingers will (inappropriately) conjure up black-and-white memories of the eastern bloc's routinely-fatal methods for rapid industrialization to justify their smears. Only the opposite extreme, complete deregulation of private industry and defunding of the government, is considered kosher by the elites. Even Democrats are stuck with this worldview (though less severely than Republicans).

It fucking pisses me off. :crankey:

....but not at the Federal Level.  Leave it to the states, that is where the democracy exists in the US Constitution.  If the federal government wasn't meddling in everything, we would have a lot of legal drugs right now, like the 2C's (great psycedelics) Medical marijuana, etc.

I think it's absurd to argue that the invisible hand of the market behaves in a way that is reliably or even normally ethical.

If you only look at the world in extremes, sure. If you realize that neither the market nor the government always knows what's best, you'd realize it's a bit too heavily stacked in favor of the former in this country.

Are you kidding me the government calls most of the shots corporate bailouts crony capitalism its ridiculous. Why would anyone ever want a an overbearing centralized authority ordering there life the way they deem fit. Thats the end game of the left to allow government to govern every aspect of our lives from cradle to grave.
