any anthropology students here?

there's not all that much talk at the shroomery about anthropology and its relevance for the world we live in (although there is plenty of debate that relates to key ideas in anthropology). so give a shout out all you anthro students! what are your interests in this dynamic discipline we all admire  :cheers:

I'm probably gonna take some anthro classes when I get back to school in Feb. I'm really interested in it, especially in the peoples that came before that knew a lot about astronomy and about the world we live in, the cosmos and such. I'm more interested in space and astronomy though and will take some astro classes too! I got an exciting bill ahead of me!

That's true. The only thing anthropological I can think of right now is Castaneda hehe, but that is only anthropology to a certain degree. Not an anthropology major, but it is definitely an awesome subject. Among my top 5.

man the art of dreaming was an unbelievable read, regardless of whether or not its based in fact or fiction. he is an awesome writer and storyteller.

I still have to finish that one. Didn't get too far into it. It's funny. I've read a few of his books, but in a scatter way and jump from one to the another when I feel like it. I have no idea why I'm doing that. I'm reading tales of power right now. Pretty awesome.

I find the evolution of humankind and culture to be one of the most fascinating subjects, but I would probably never want a degree in it.

I have poor work ethic, and there is no money to be made.

i took an intro course to anthropology and i found it quite interesting - i'm sure it'd be something neat to major in, but like memories says there's not a lot of jobs for it i imagine

with a degree in anthropology you can still get a job, its just unlikely that you'll get a job as an anthropologist. it really depends on where you live. where i live in australia there is heaps of work with the aboriginal peoples.

I don't have a poor work ethic, but no money/jobs is what made me not major in it.

The lack of intermediate speciation casts doubt upon their views on evolution.

Anthropology would be interesting if they examined some of the edifices below the ocean.


I have more respect for fields which produce tangible goods and services that the market will freely pay for instead of government funded bullshit.
