What to do with a degree in anthropology/history

Im in college and double majoring in history and anthropology. I love both subjects but i cant place any sort of career field I would like to go into. For history, I love the study of indigenous American cultures and the study of ideology based atrocities (genocides, communism, etc). In anthropology, I like ethnography, the "what makes us human" debate and environmental anthropology.

What sort of career could these interests lead me to. Anyone have any ideas?

LAW
teaching
political science
writing
philosophy
psychology
mba
or Masters and PHD in the coursed chosen and then teaching and writing

I would add archaeology to the mix -- there are very many good archaeology jobs with both federal and state governments, as well as with academic institutions.

Going to graduate school in your specific field for a masters and/or Ph.D. would be good, after which you could teach at any level desired, or do research.

Museum work would also be very appropriate for an ahthro/hist major.

Otherwise, RGV's list above is excellent.

What makes us human? We are the only polycelled organisms to act like a monocelled one.. we consume, reproduce and consume and reproduce.. we take all we might get our hands on.. needing to throw away our foods than eat them.. a wolf does not kill three deer if he intends to eat one. A human might possibly do this.

Ah, but Icyus -- chisox100 could tell you that a hunter-gatherer or small-scale agriculturalist most likely would not do this sort of thing.  That's why we study anthropology -- things aren't so simple!  We may not be "humanity." 

Something to think about.

I'd love to be a professor of cultural anthropology but i've seen statistics that say there's 1 professor job for every 50 people with a PhD in anthropology. I don't want to put all my effort into it and not have a job. Same goes for if I decided to pursue a career as a historian...

you could still get a job round the uni tho as a tutor or in research
(or janitor?) and at least you would be around what you love..

or maybe getting involved in aid work overseas or could be an option

id say go for academia!

ok if you would love to be a professor
you have to begin to hob knob
they need some appreciation from students
and they return the favor in recommendations and guidance
it is a society unto itself,
not that hard to get into
you will find yourself in a pub with people you respect talking about your interests and your career will unfold.
socialize with your teachers.

all you can do is teach or go to grad school to become a professor. that's the only ticket a liberal arts degree buys nowadays. if you wanna do something else related to your degree you have to get there yourself somehow, rather than relying on the degree to take you there.

liberal arts degrees are pointless as shit unless you genuinely want to be a teacher. i thought it was a lie when people told me that...until i graduated that is.
