i have an idea for the ratings system.

each person gets two special ratings to give out.

one is the ultra-super-bad rating, for that person that just really gets under your skin. it's the mushroom equivalent to three 1-mushroom rates.

the other is the mega-awesome-squared rating. it is for that one person who is just mega awesome. it's equivalent to three 5-mushroom rates.

you only get one of each, and if you use your special rating on someone, you can't use a normal rating on that same person in conjunction...

If someone gives bad information, I do think it should be noted somehow. Just for reliability of information.

Many will not rate a member low, even if deserved, unless it was anonymous. However, I do agree that there is a high potential for abuse with an anonymous system.

A comfortable compromise would be to allow anonymous voting, but have it on a 3 to 1 curve.

Example: Someone gives out awful information. A single negative rating will not post. The second negative rating will not post. It will only post after three negative ratings.

This would prevent retaliation ratings while still maintaining a fair degree of accuracy through anonymous concensus.

Just a thought.

You've got to bear in mind a lot of the assholes who post here will just sit there typing in 3 negative rates one after the other because they "don't like you". There isn't usually a lot of thinking going on in these peoples minds or they wouldn't be posting insults in the first place.

I was thinking that only unique members would count. Of course, this would not prevent the use of puppets, but may dissuade the casual abuser.

My feelings about puppets and ratings are this. One person one vote. Non-Grow-Log puppets are not allowed, and anyone who uses two accounts to give two separate ratings of a member in the same category (general/trade), will loose both ratings, and probably receive one of my long-winded PMs threatening some sort of action... :wink:

PS: The same thing applies to Trade ratings when you haven't actually traded with someone. Trade ratings are to describe your feelings about an ACTUAL TRADE with a member, not about whether you think you may, or may not, want to trade with someone, or whether you do, or do not, want to trade spit with someone...

PPS: And yes, I haven't deleted all of those yet, but I've been busy. It will happen...
