So why in the hell do we not use iodine?

This stuff. It works a fuckload better than alcohol, bleach, or really any kind of liquid you'd use to sanitize things. Is it just the cost factor, or do people not like the coloring of it or what?

Doesn't evaporate like alcohol

Maybe it doesn't work as good? IDK

It usually comes dissolved in an alcohol solution.

This pic is of povidone iodine, which is iodine mixed with water.

Tincture of iodine is a suspension of iodine in alcohol.

In the medical field we use alcohol on tools and iodine on wounds.

Good to know. I was actually a bit curious about that. Just hadn't came across the info.

It's my understanding that alcohol evaps off clean, whereas iodine doesn't and lingers to continue to disinfect.

Idk about others, but before inoculation i wipe the top of my jars with a iodine & iso solution with a cotton ball. Never tried putting it in a spray bottle but since it's soluble in alcohol, i don't think a few drops in a bottle would hurt. At least that way you wouldn't use it frivolously, it wouldn't gunk up the spray hose (as easy), and I wouldn't think discoloration would be a problem so long as you wipe down your glovebox after each use.

You wipe down your glovebow with disinfectant?

I use soap and water. The point is to have the walls wet so contams stick to it.

Eh not really, I do a pre-wipe, let a quick mist of 91% iso evaporate, then I spray with a bleech/water solution and leave it to sit while I inoculate. May seem like overkill but I live in a house with 2 dogs, 2 smokers and a heavily wooded area.

Then it sounds to me like it would be prefferable to use iodine. I may start trying it and see what I find out.
