Anyone have any experience with antabuse?

i'm going to try taking it for awhile as soon as the alcohol clears my system. how long do i need to wait after my last drink anyway? it's been over 24 hours.

was just wondering if anyone had any personal insight into the ups and downs of this particular med.. much thanks

I  haven't tried it personally but I am sure your doctor would be best placed to advise you on when to start taking it... I would imagine as soon as any alcohol is out of your system you would be good to go..

I am very skeptical about such medications tho because if you REALLY want to drink then you will just stop taking the medication and drink!

Maybe if you can it would be better to see if you can get some counselling or something to figure out why you are drinking so much anyways

its just for conditioning, i think they should make those last for 7 days like they have for the antipsychotic meds. so even if you dont want to take it anymore you dont have the choice, and it actually fells like body is doing it by its self, rejecting the drug you just drank.

I have never used it but I know people who have.  It works well.  You only have to want to be sober for 1 sec while you take it, then your sober the rest of the day. 
The only downside is that everyone I know that have taken it has tried to get wasted while on it, thinking that it will not work on them.  :failboat:

^ I would imagine it made them violently ill.

Anyway, for the OP I just looked it up and it says this stuff stays in the body for a long time, and you should not drink any alcohol for 2 weeks prior to commencing treatment with antabuse :smile:.

It Also increases the effects of cocaine. But makes the effects unpleasant because how much it increases the effects. I would say 50 or so milligrams would work well for that.

right, exactly. i'd be scared shitless to even take a medicinal tincture with alcohol while on it.. so i know it'll work for me. i'm just making sure the alc is totally out of me before i take it. im tapering with k-pins right now and the amnesia is just ridiculous, even at a 2mg dose.. now i understand why ppl say they literally can't remember years of their life after being on this stuff long term :sad:

i've heard differeing thoughts on that.. my doctor said i could take it 12 hours after my last drink and there was no way in hell, i can feel 18 drinks the night before all the way up till the next evening. 2 weeks sounds a little extreme maybe, but who knows

Back in high school we use to party with a guy(a bit older) who was on anabuse.  He would drink anyway and just be puking and rolling around on the floor the whole time while his other friend beat the shit out of him, I guess to offer further incentive for him to get his shit together(bruises the next day and all that).  It was a pretty sad sight.  How long have you been going with the drink and how hard that you feel you need anabuse to get you off of it?

that's.. funny and sad at the same time. i am generally strongly against pharms, so.. i'd say i really need it. i'm getting a naltrexone injection after i'm on the antabuse for a week or so

i drank again last night like a dumbass, already having 2.5mg+ clonazepam in my system from earlier. and i took my 2mg k-pin this morning and i still feel like shit.

that's why i'm going to get on the antabuse as soon as i can take it and just taper the k-pins...

I never did that... but I did collect all the snails in my garden and kept them in a big tank... I'd say there were about 300 snails in the tank...

anyway... my neighbour who was a grumpy old fucker shouted at me for tickling his cat... so I released all the snails into his garden so they would eat his crops haha :laugh:.
