Re: I'm an extremely stable schizophrenic person. Would mushrooms be bad for me? [Re: briant230]

I've not read the thread OP but I'm assuming that people are against the idea of you using psychedelics. This would make sense as many of the symptoms of psychedelics mimic those of full blown psychosis.

I would like to offer you a different perspective. If you want to experience something DON'T let your illness hold you back. If you want to experience the magic that is psychedelia than DO IT. Make sure you're aware of the risks and decide for yourself weather or not your want to take the risk. Remember you only live ONCE and you should at least seek out the opportunities to do things you'd like.

Despite the fact that psychedelics mimic psychotic symptoms in "normal" individuals AND more likley to bring out psychotic symptoms in "psychotic" individuals at threshold doses, there is no proven correlation between long term psychosis and psychedelics. Sure there's some anecdotal evidence but I wouldn't base my decision on that.

Ultimately mate it's up to you. Life, consciousness, thoughts and perceptions are all a precious, mysterious and wonderful gifts. You are the master of your own destiny and if you would like to trip than I think you SHOULD do it. After all, I'm sure the sadness brought about your knowing that you can't do something, would in fact be worse for you mind than actually tripping.

I wish you the best man :peace:

There's definitely evidence that says people with mental psychosis of any kind can have their symptoms exacerbated by psychedelics, even weed can bring out symptoms in otherwise stable individuals...isn't that just common sense at this point? there is however only anecdotal (and pretty shotty) evidence to say that it directly causes mental psychosis. But that's a totaly different ball game.

I believe my friend who snapped would have snapped eventually. But I will never get to know for sure. He thinks people are plotting against him and he's the only one sane. He thinks that's what tripping is about, finding connections between unrelated, unconnected concepts. If you're already on meds I would not fuck with it man. These drugs aren't worth it. These experiences can be had in different ways. Psychedelics remind me how much I love my friends and family. Stuff like that. No secrets to the universe. It's not worth it. I know it sucks but that's how life is. If everyone who wasn't mentally ready to trip didn't trip we wouldn't have all these crazy stories about people jumping out of windows etc. Go somewhere nice, wake up in time to see the sun rise, and be happy to be alive. That's all you need man.

You need to just know your mind and how you feel about the world around you. I know you are schizophrenic, but how is your mental state right now? You say you are doing fine, that's great! The medications are working, but more importantly for a mental disorder, you must have found it in yourself to overcome what seemed an unreal, hellish experience, come back, and make sense of the life around you.

This makes me think you are strong and able-minded. You have been able to deal with the reality you have been given and make sense of it. This is you. How many mentally ill are prescribed medications but never seem to get better, or get better for a bit and then become worse again? Yes, medication will help, but if it is a mental disorder, is is you who must save yourself. And you have. Mentally ill are led to believe they are delusional, sick, and not in control of their mind, when really we are all in control of our mind. But who knows where our mind will take us? The trees, the streets, the sky, reality is based upon us, our brains, our perception. There is no reality outside your eyes - you take in a scrambled mess of molecules and atoms and associate and make sense of it. I truly believe that if the mentally ill were talked and treated more normally, then they would be able to find sense in their world again. We take 'normal' for grant it, considering there is no such thing.

So while I think you may be mentally ready for a trip - I also have to weight out the other variables. This medication you are on must be having some effect on you, stopping it might change things up, and even if you are at a point where you could stop it, taking the psychedelic would switch things up even more. Also, the psychedelic experience is an event all on its own, normal people freak out and psychedelics too. Most of them come back fine, although a little shaken,  and you must be prepared for this. Also, I must say that people with mental disorders have made it worse by using psychedelics. However, a few have also cured themselves. How? Probably how you look at the experience.

If you smoke weed and feel fine that is a good sign, as many people can easier eat a shroom then take a hit, but that doesn't mean you will be completely fine on shrooms. They are different substances and shrooms are much more profound, though I will say being able to handle your high is a definite good thing.

Finally, although you may be curious, is it really worth the risk? You say you already smoke cannabis... so you already have a great substance that you can use to relax, chill, and get a little psychedelic fun out of. Cannabis can be very psychedelic, especially at low tolerance. Your already smoking weed, do you need to go further and try shrooms? If you are able to drink alcohol, then you are really set, haha.

Problem is, we take these substances to get divine knowledge, but the knowledge is right in front of us, with every breath we take. It's about loving life. It really is.

And this whole thing about meditation being bad for the mentally ill is absurbed as it gets. It is probably one of the best things you can do to quite your mind and bring you to a state of peace and understanding. Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming is just the icing on the cake, and I don't think those are harmful either as your own brain is doing it without the use of foreign chemicals, but they may be more profound.

Ultimately, there a lot of different things you could do in life and shrooms is only one of them. I don't think with your conditon being as good as it is you really need to risk it, so I would personally have to advise against it, but ultimately

it is your choice, you must understand what is best for you and do what you feel is truly best. If you do this, you will be fine, whether it is taking them or not

Don't know about mushrooms yet, I hope they still work with the combination of medications I'm on.

Try it, you might have a great experience, or find out that you should never do mushrooms again. Then again, it might not work for you.

LSD shouldn't work for me because of my medications, but it does for whatever reason. Everybody's different.

What medications are you on, if you don't mind me asking?

A high dose of an atypical anti psychotic, two kinds of anti anxiety meds, an anticonvulsant, and an antidepressant.

when you eat acid, how long do the effects take to come on, and how long do they normally last?

Seriously, show me the right reason to tripping. Oh wait, there isn't one. Get off your high horse.

I take psychedelics to get fucked up and see shit.

If anything is "fucking" you up, it's most likely these meds.

Listen to this:

Terence McKenna: Schizophrenic or Shamanic?

I'm assuming you have a very vivid imagination. Don't be scared of it, but embrace that imagination in a controlled manner.

I suggest you consider meditation (at first), and then work your way into lucid dreaming and astral projecting.

If you get a good grip on these things(especially meditation, thought control, channeling energy around your body, etc.), somebody with your imagination has a very good potential for magickal work.

Anyways, I think you should really consider dropping your medication. I mean, they might help you in the beginning, but do you seriously intend on taking them your whole life long? Probably not. Now, do you think that getting off the medication "latter on" will be easier than it is now? NO, it will probably be harder. You'll get "used" to them (addicted, in other words).

I'm no physician, but I just don't trust all these chemicals that "Doctors" prescribe today.

How often do you smoke weed, if you don't mind me asking? About a month ago I went on vacation (South Carolina and Florida). I'm from Canada and, obviously, had no "contact/dealer" down there. I was "forced" to quit smoking for a little more than 2 1/2 weeks.

It cleared me up tremendously, and now when I smoke just ONE joint (mind you, I used to smoke 3-4 daily), I get VERY VERY high to say the least. It's almost like a mild mushroom experience. I have clairvoyant flashes (this is hard to explain. Clairvoyance is being able to see the "other worlds/dimensions", which you can train yourself to do with consistent meditation and all that fun stuff. When experienced, it's almost like a picture on top of a picture...if this doesn't make sense, I totally understand. No wonder Shpongle named one of their albums "Inexpressible Tales".) I've only smoked 2 since coming back, leaving 4 days of non-smoking in-between. I will probably want to keep it to once/week...makes the whole experience very mystical and "enlightening", as opposed to stoning everyday.

This whole story to tell you....how about experimenting with Cannabis first? This'll "prepare" you for that 6-8 hour roller-coaster which mushrooms are.

Good luck, and whatever you do...it's ALL in your head

Hey OP I am by no means a psychologist but one of my best child hood friends is a schizophrenic. Before I knew he had this condition and I assume he didn't know either we would take hallucinogens together with no real intense repercussions. He was more paranoid than the rest of us but not to the extreme. Things took a sharp decline for him when he went to his cousins wedding out of state and claimed to have smoked what he called "speed" but sounded like meth to me. He described the high as extremely long and intense and he got stuck on C-SPAN. He became infatuated with the idea that some how "big brother" was watching him through the TV and would drone on and on about his own person conspiracy theory.

Getting back on track...
My best friend changed over night because of a bad trip, I'm not saying do it or don't but one bad experience sent him into a paranoid downward spiral. And of course we are all unique and react to things differently :mushroom2:

Oh and hes on a stable med regimen. Doesn't partake in any illicit mind altering substances any more. And seems to be back to his old fun loving self

Stay away from psychedelics. It does not fit your medication, and you will most likely have a bad experience. Or else, try it only once, but stop the meds a couple of days before.
